Assign page roles

Hi there. Welcome to Get Started with Facebook. I'm Marika, and this lesson is all about Page roles.

It's a good idea to have more than one person managing your business Page. If you're a one-person business at the moment, that might not be realistic. But as you grow, you'll want to enlist some help. Page Roles let you give other people permission to help manage your Page. And you can decide exactly how much control you give to each person. If someone leaves the company, you're able to turn their permissions off. It helps you keep your Page secure as employees come and go.
When you're ready to assign a Page role to someone, you have six options. I'll tell you about the one with the most access and the one with the least access to help you understand how this works. The admin role gives people total access to make changes to your Page. The live contributor role only lets a person go live as that Page but won't give them permission to do anything else. The analyst role only lets people see insights and who's published on a Page, whereas, editors, moderators and advertisers can do things such as create ads.
You can see exactly what you're allowing when you assign the role. To assign or manage your Page roles, go to Settings > Page roles > Assign a new Page role. And now that you know how Page roles work, try asking someone you trust to help you test it.
Remember, the more you explore, the more comfortable you'll be with all the tools you have to help grow your business. Have fun!

page ratings and reviews

Hi everyone. Welcome to Get Started with Facebook. I'm Marika – and in this video, I'll be explaining the Ratings and reviews section of your business' page.

Think about the last time you looked online for a new restaurant or tried to find a good hotel in a new city. How did you know if you could trust the service? How do you know if they'll have the little details you love? Let's talk about ratings and reviews on your page.
Your Page will have ratings and reviews turned on by default. Even when you don't have any ratings and reviews, we recommend showing people that you're willing to be transparent about people's experience with your business. If, for any reason, you want to turn ratings and reviews off, you can. At the top of your Page, click Settings. Click Edit Page and look for the Reviews section. Click Settings. Next to Show reviews, toggle the switch to Off and click Save.
And now you know the basics of ratings and reviews on your page. Good work. Keep watching for more tips.

Add local business details to a Page

Hi there. Welcome to Get Started with Facebook. I'm Marika – and in this video, I'm focusing on tips for local businesses who are growing their business on Facebook.

A local business is just what it sounds like: a business that focuses on catering to the local community. Think coffee shops and restaurants. Businesses such as gyms, pet supply shops, ice cream shops (my personal favourite). If you have a local business, there are a few things you'll want to include on your Page.
Think about your own experience. How many times do you look up a business to check their location or shop opening hours? I do it all the time. And it's good to know these things because there's truly nothing more crushing than arriving at your favourite ice cream parlour on a Friday night just to discover they closed an hour earlier. You'll want to add these important details that your customers rely on.
Start on your Page and choose About on the bottom-left side. From there, you'll be able to add your description, contact info, location and hours. Your story can give people a little more history behind your business. You can include things such as when your business was founded, what you specialise in, your mission. It's a way for people to connect with you and understand what made you want to go into this business in the first place. This is a good place to tell people that. If you're not sure what to write in your story, don't worry. Start by adding your hours of operation and location to your About section. Go and do it straight away. People need to know these things. Help them out!
Keep watching for more tips about how to get the most out of your new page.

Create a page description

Hi everyone. Welcome to Get Started with Facebook. I'm Marika – and in this video, I'm giving you some tips about your Page description.

Knowing a little bit about a business can help you make an emotional connection. It's just a short description that helps introduce people to your company and tell them what you do. It will come up in search results when people look for you online. It will appear right here, below your profile picture. People will see your description in the About section of your Page.
To add the description, just go to your Page. Click the About tab. Click Edit. When you write yours, describe your business in one to two sentences to help people understand what value you offer. Think about what makes you unique and what differentiates you from other Pages. Keep it short and sweet! Maybe you own a hair salon that's especially child-friendly, maybe you're a clothing boutique for people who like to be well dressed but comfy. Whatever you are, this is where you'll tell people about it.
And that's my lesson on Page descriptions. Next step: go and add a description to your Page. Keep watching for more tips on how to make the most of your page.

Choose a Page username

How do you tell people where to find your business on Facebook? Let's talk about usernames. Usernames all begin with the @ symbol and you'll see them below the profile image on your Page, just below your Page name.

Here's an example: On Jasper's Market's Page, you can see that their username is . Your username doesn't have to be identical to your Page name, but we recommend it. That way, it will be easier for people to find you. People can type in your username when they want to go directly to your page. So if I want to go to Jasper's Market, I'll type facebook.com/pageprovider.
To add or edit your Page's username, Click About on the left-hand side of your Page, Click Edit next to your current Page username (if you have one) and enter a new username.
When you choose your username, here are a few things to bear in mind: You can only use letters, numbers and full stops. No special characters such as pound signs, ampersands or exclamation marks. And no generic terms or extensions such as .com or .net. Your username has to be at least five characters long. Full stops and capitalisation don't differentiate usernames. For example, johnsmith55, John.Smith55 and john.smith.55 are all considered as the same username. Oh, and one last thing: your usernames shouldn't impersonate someone else because that's not cool or legal.
If you haven't done it yet, go and create your page username, and keep watching for more tips.

Name your page

Every Page needs a name. It's how people find you. And of course, you want people to be able to find you.

Let's talk about your page name. When you set up your Page, you'll need to name it. Here's a pro tip: Don't overthink it. I recommend using your business name for your Page. For example, if your physical shop or website is called Jasper's Market, name your Page Jasper's Market. If you're a doctor, you can name your Page after your practice or use the name that your patients call you.
You can't have the same Page name as someone else. If yours is taken, you'll get a prompt to choose something else.
Now, there's always the chance that you'll need to change your Page name. Sometimes that happens as your business grows. Or let's say you do the unthinkable and spell your business name wrong when you're setting up your Page. It happens. To change it, go to About, Name and then Edit.
Bear in mind that your Page name will have to be approved.
And now you know the basics of Facebook business Page names. Good work. If you haven't done it yet, name your Page now.

page categories

When you set up your Page, you'll need to choose a category. Are you a plumbing service? A shoe shop? A national park? The main reason to choose a category is because people will see it on your Page. For example, if you're a travel agency, it will say "Travel Company" right here.
Categories also help us prep your Page template to include the types of information your customers will want. For example, if you have an e-commerce website, no one will need a physical address for your shop. But if you're setting up a Page for a local restaurant, they will. So explore the options and choose the one that best describes what you do.
Don't worry too much about finding the perfect category. You can change it later if you need to. And, you can change your layout from your Facebook business Page. Go to Settings in the top right-hand corner of your screen. Choose Edit Page from the tabs on the left. And, under Templates, click edit. To change the actual category of your Page, click the About tab (on the left), then go to the General section and click Edit next to Category.
And now you know the basics of Page categories. Keep watching for more tips.

Geography of a page

There are lots of tools to help you connect with people. And even if you don't take advantage of all of them straight away, it's a good idea to know what's available. Just like a Facebook profile, you have two main images, a profile picture and cover photo, and your company's name will be directly below your picture.
Over here on the left, you have tabs to navigate through all the sections of your Page. Bear in mind that you can customise these. Just go to Settings, and then Edit Page. If you click the Home tab, this is where you can create posts, start a live broadcast, create an offer, write a note etc. It's like your control centre. And these tabs below it let you see one section at a time.
Below the cover photo, next to Like, Follow and Share, you'll see a button with three dots. We call it the More button. That's where you can go to edit your Page and see what your Page looks like for visitors. Also, if you choose View Insights, you'll be able to look through information on how people are finding and interacting with your Page. Insights are just what they sound like – insights. This is where you get information such as how many people are looking at your Page, your post views and things like that. If I can give you one piece of advice – explore.
Now that you know the basics, spend some time looking around on your own. You won't break anything, I promise.

page inspiration: Alameda County Fair

I want to introduce you to my friend, Angel. The Page she manages has over 100,000 followers. But, it didn't start that way.
My name is Angel Moore and I am the vice president of business development for the Alameda County Fair. We get about 450,000 visitors every year in an 18-day period. So that's a lot of people coming through the gates, but we also host about 350 other events throughout the year. So we actually get about three million visitors through the property. In the first year, I think we had maybe 10,000 followers. And so now, we are nine years later and are at 105,000 followers. We created a business Page. When we created that business Page, we told all of our employees to follow us. Make sure that you follow our Page and tell your friends to follow us. That's really how we started building the Page. It was grassroots within our own organisation. It started there and we just keep working towards new goals every year.
