Why only Two Returned when by laws it should be ALL
Thailand has returned two injured Cambodian soldiers today: 2LT Ang Oeung (37) and MSG Mom Vuthy (53). They were handed over through the Chong Chom/O’Smach border after receiving treatment. Thai officials frame this as a “humanitarian gesture” under international humanitarian law.
But the rest of our soldiers remain detained.
This is not over.
Cambodia welcomes this return. But we do not confuse gestures with obligations. The Geneva Conventions apply to all captured personnel not just the wounded, not just the ones convenient to release first.
We now demand the immediate and full repatriation of every remaining Cambodian soldier still held on Thai soil.
Thailand has shifted from “hold all” to selective release. That changes the structure: instead of a unified case of return, the soldiers are now being drip-fed back in small numbers a classic leverage move disguised as compassion.
Meanwhile, Cambodia holds position. We are keeping our border sites open to international diplomats and media, not for theatre but for transparency, verification, and dignity.
We are not hiding anything.
We want the world to see the ground, not just the headlines.
International reports already recognize this moment for what it is: a fragile ceasefire, a test of whether all parties will comply with the law, not just the optics.
And every day that the rest are not returned?
It builds pressure.
Here’s what we’re watching now:
Will Thailand release the rest together (a true peace gesture) or drip them slowly to retain control?
Will the upcoming meetings reportedly in early August have clear time, place, and third-party observers?
Will both sides stick to the language of IHL and Geneva or start softening the script?
Because if they do start to soften it, the world will know who’s shifting the standard.
Our posture remains calm, lawful, and disciplined.
We are not here to perform pain.
We are here to protect principle.
Two returned is progress. But make no mistake
All returned is the standard.
