Thailand has repeatedly violated international law, human rights, and humanitarian principles both along the border with Cambodia and within its own territory.
For months, when Cambodia encouraged Thailand to settle the dispute at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Thailand arrogantly rejected the proposal, boasting that it could defeat Cambodian forces in just three days and reach Phnom Penh in three hours, while using economic pressure to intimidate Cambodia.
On July 24, 2025 at the border, Thailand breached bilateral agreements by crossing into Cambodian territory, setting up barbed wire, and opening fire on Cambodian forces. Despite portraying itself as a victim and invoking the right to self-defense, Thailand has refused any legal resolution while Cambodia requested an urgent meeting of the Security Council to stop Thailand’s aggression against Cambodia’s sovereignty.
In the latest clashes, Thailand deployed heavy weapons, including F-16 fighter jets which show clear intention of full scale invasion. What worst, Thailand has been using 155mm ATMG weapons, a type equipped with cluster munitions in targeting Cambodia territory that internationally banned cluster munitions according to Convention of Cluster Munitions.
Inside Thailand, Cambodian residents have suffered abuse, coerced to send messages urging Cambodian troops to surrender, and in some cases slapped, beaten, and humiliated on camera. These acts amount to severe human rights violations and psychological torture. Not to forget that on 13th July 2025, Thai soldiers went as far as luring Cambodian troops with a fake handshake before launching a cowardly sneak attack and fleeing.
