A day trip from Phnom Penh to Chnok Tru, Kampong Chhnang! 🚤✨
We started early at 6am, stopped for breakfast at Sala Lek 5 near the market, explored Ponley Market, and continued to Wat Yuk Kunthor—a temple on a hill surrounded by flooded villages. 🌊 Along the way, we enjoyed local village food and saw homes & boats along the road in the dry season.

I crossed the Mekong River from Phnom Penh to Kandal Province 🇰🇭 to explore Cambodia’s countryside life. First stop: Wat Prek Bangkong (Giant Lobster Temple) with its stunning Giant Buddha Statue 🙏. Then I visited Prek Bangkong Market and Puk Russey Market — full of fresh fish 🐟, crabs 🦀, vegetables 🥬, snacks, and authentic Cambodian village vibes.

I visited Prek Khmeng Village in Kandal Province, Cambodia 🇰🇭, where families work hard every day making smoked fish—a tradition passed down from their ancestors.

The village is along the river, flooded during the season, bringing plenty of fish. Villagers preserve fish in many ways: smoked fish, dried fish, salty fish, and fermented fish. The most popular is smoked fish, sold for just $0.15 per skewer (10 fish).

Despite the cheap price, villagers depend on this to support their families, send children to school, and cover daily expenses. If you ever visit, please support them—don’t bargain. 🙏

After exploring Ponley Market and visiting Wat Yuk Kunthor Temple on the hill, the villagers prepared us an incredible traditional Khmer lunch:
🐟 Fried Fish with Pickled Beansprouts
🥚 Steamed Proma with Egg
🍲 Fish Soup with Fresh Vegetables

This was a true Cambodian village feast surrounded by floating villages and warm hospitality. 💙
