Thai Forces Arrest 20 Cambodian Soldiers; Two Believed Killed After Ceasefire Agreement

According to a senior General of the Cambodian army, after the recent ceasefire talks, Thai army personnel signaled for a peaceful exchange. During this interaction, 20 Cambodian soldiers were reportedly called forward for a handshake, conversation, and photo opportunity.

Cambodia alleges that as its soldiers began to trust and lower their guard, Thai forces ambushed and captured all 20.

Initial reports indicate that one Cambodian soldier managed to escape, while two others are suspected to have been shot dead during the incident. These accusations suggest a deliberate intent by the Thai military to reignite the conflict.

The incident has drawn the attention of international observers. CNA journalist Leong Wai Kit, who was in Cambodia observing the situation, reportedly exposed discrepancies in Thailand's narrative. He specifically challenged claims made by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs that Cambodia had violated the ceasefire.

Leong Wai Kit remarked that from his position on the front line with Cambodian soldiers, there was no sound of gunfire or bullets, and conditions remained calm and peaceful after the ceasefire was supposed to be in effect.

Cambodia is now urging the international community to scrutinize these developments closely, to understand the true nature of the Thai military's actions, and to expose what it describes as cruelty, deceit, and a hunger for war from the alleged perpetrators.
