Meaning of the Composition βThe Voice of the Templeβ by Srornos SO :
I composed this piece for the Cambodian people, and especially for the temples of
Cambodia. Its purpose is to convey that although a temple is built of stone, it still
carries a voice and can express deep, sorrowful emotions.
In the first part of the music, I chose a slow, mournful style to evoke feelings of
sadness and reflection. Through this sound, the temple speaks to the people,
expressing its unhappiness at being threatened with removal from its ancestral
land and separated from its own people.
In the second part, the music becomes faster and more agitated, with tremors of
anger and defiance. Here, the temple's voice grows stronger, declaring its pain
and refusal to be taken away from its homeland and the people who value it. It
cries out for only one thing: to remain in peace on its native soil among the
Cambodian people.
Finally, the templeβs message is this: even if it is removed from its birthplace and
its people, its spirit will always remain in Cambodia, forever bound to its land and
to the hearts of the Cambodian people.
