1960 Chevrolet Corvette convertible
The Corvette represents Americaโ€™s first true sports car. Until the early 1960s a sports car usually meant a foreign import. Now a cult car in its own right, the Corvette was introduced in 1953 as the first serried-built production car to have a fibreglass body. Initial sales, however, were disappointing, so much so that manufacture was almost abandoned in 1955. Subsequent redesigns and upgrading saved the marque.
