A Godly conversation I never expected with my Cambodian student (Right after our private training session)
After our private training session, he asked me, Coach, how do you deal with injuries? (Sadly, he got an ACL injury at a young age but right now, he is recovering well and slowly going back to playing basketball.)
I told him, Just pray to God when you wake up in the morning. Pray in the afternoon. And pray before you sleep at night, because prayer keeps your mind and your spirit strong.
Then he showed me his phone, and his screen had a Bible verse on it. He told me, Coach, I’m a Christian.
He shared with me, This ACL injury made me realize how good God is. He saved me from anxiety, fear, and depression. I didn’t receive enough emotional and mental support around me, but God did.
So I told him, You’re truly blessed. You’re very lucky because God is bringing you closer to Him at such a young age.
I also reminded him that God doesn’t let us suffer for nothing. Sometimes He allows hard seasons not to destroy us, but to strengthen us. Sometimes He lets us fall a little deeper so we learn to depend on Him more. He may put us in difficult situations, but if we keep our faith in Him, He will pull us out and restore us in the right time.
And before we separated, I told him this too:
I really admire you because despite your young age, the way you think is very mature. You clearly understand how God is working in your life.
After that moment, I also realized something important: This conversation should be heard by many people who are going through the same situation. Not to brag, but to encourage them to hold on to their faith because prayers really work. When you feel anxious, afraid, or depressed, God can still give you peace and strength, even in the middle of your struggle.
After all, God is using me to spread His good word, so I will use my platform to spread His goodness.
God is really great all the time! Amen 🙏
