BREAKING: Cambodian military informs military attachés and diplomats from 13 countries that Thai forces have captured 20 Cambodian soldiers (1 escaped, 2 suspected dead) after an official ceasefire was in place. The Thai troops reportedly approached as if to shake hands with Cambodian troops at the frontline, but then suddenly detained them. As of now, they have not been released.
(Preah Vihear): On the morning of July 30, 2025, the commander of the Cambodian armed forces informed military attachés and diplomats from 13 countries about an incident where Thai forces detained 20 Cambodian soldiers (one managed to escape, and two are suspected to have died) after a ceasefire had officially taken effect. The Cambodian troops were in the process of shaking hands with Thai soldiers at the frontline when the incident occurred.
According to the Cambodian military, this information was shared during a visit led by senior officials from the Ministry of National Defense, along with foreign military attachés, diplomats, and relevant parties, to inspect the Cambodia–Thailand border. The purpose was to observe the situation and verify implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
The Cambodian military clarified to the 13 foreign representatives that, on the morning of July 29, 2025, after the ceasefire was officially in effect, Cambodian troops approached Thai soldiers to shake hands. However, on their way back, the Thai soldiers suddenly pointed their weapons and detained the Cambodian soldiers.
According to the Cambodian commander, as of the afternoon of July 30, 2025, the Thai forces have not yet released the detained Cambodian soldiers.
