Sold-Out Premiere for Locally Produced Film

Basseterre, St. Kitts (MyVue News.com)— The “red carpet” was rolled out, the excitement was palpable, and the response from the public was overwhelming.

The premiere on Thursday night, of the locally produced action-thriller CSO: Caribbean Operation Power Trip was nothing short of a blockbuster success.

Caribbean Cinemas reported a sold-out night as moviegoers packed the venue in numbers not seen in recent memory.

Audiences were left in awe, with many stating they had never witnessed such an overflow of support for any film—especially one created entirely on home soil.

From the opening sequence to the closing credits, CSO delivered a cinematic experience that rivaled Hollywood. The script was sharp and engaging, the acting impressively natural and compelling, and the production quality—ranging from stunts and special effects to sound design and cinematography—was simply outstanding.

This film was a true labour of love. Developed over the course of three years, CSO was produced without any corporate or government sponsorship or other financial backing. Imagine how much more they could achieve with financial backing.

Despite major challenges, including setbacks right up to the eve of the premiere, the team never wavered. Instead, they showcased grit, passion, and unshakable belief in their vision.

The cast and crew’s resilience paid off. Their debut feature has not only captivated local audiences but has also proven a powerful point: there is real cinematic talent in St. Kitts.

In a rare display of admiration, the audience remained seated through the final credits—seemingly spellbound and emotionally stirred by what they had just witnessed. For many, the experience was surreal, knowing that the stars of the film were seated among them.

Though centered around a serious storyline involving terrorism, CSO struck a balance with sharp humour, drawing laughter from the crowd during several memorable moments.

Written and directed by Naeem Richardson and Jahvid Allen, and produced in association with Studio 327 and Noir Works, CSO: Caribbean Operation Power Trip marks a significant milestone in the growth of local filmmaking.

The cast includes:
• Naeem Richardson as Jason
• Jahavid Allen as Eddie
• Radhames Warner as Drake
• Anthony Jeetlall as Isaac
• Siñea Henry as Cynthia
• Omar Liburd as Zach & Cody
• Mickron Stephens as Darius

The next screening is set for Friday, July 18 at 7:00 PM—and if the premiere is anything to go by, seats won’t last long and is heading to another sold out performance.

Locally Produced Action Movie Premieres at Caribbean Cinemas Next Week

Basseterre, 9th July 2025 – (NoirWorks & Studio327Inc.)-St. Kitts is stepping into the cinematic spotlight with the highly anticipated premiere of a homegrown action-thriller that promises to leave audiences on the edge of their seats.

CSO: Operation Power Trip—an adrenaline-fueled, sci-fi action film—will debut at Caribbean Cinemas in Basseterre on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th July, with showtime set for 7:00 PM each night.

This 90-minute feature follows a covert operation launched to dismantle the largest human trafficking ring in the region. At the center of it all is Jason, a lethal agent from the Caribbean Special Operatives (CSO), who uncovers a sinister plot that could tip the balance of power in one country—with devastating implications across the Caribbean and beyond.

Packed with explosive action, enhanced humans, sharp humor, and high-stakes sci-fi, the story unfolds with just 24 hours on the clock for a special team of operatives to prevent the rise of a new world order. The film is rated PG-13 and blends genres to create an unforgettable cinematic experience.

CSO: Operation Power Trip is written and directed by Naeem Richardson and Jahavid Allen, and was filmed entirely in St. Kitts. Production began in October 2021 and wrapped in February 2024 under the banner of local studios NoirWorks and Studio327Inc.

The cast includes:
• Naeem Richardson as Jason
• Jahavid Allen as Eddie
• Radhames Warner as Drake
• Anthony Jeetlall as Isaac
• Siñea Henry as Cynthia
• Omar Liburd as Zach & Cody
• Mickron Stephens as Darius

Speaking ahead of the premiere, co-director Naeem Richardson shared the origin of the film’s concept:

“It actually started with a script I wrote back in grade 6. Years later, I came across it and realized I still loved the core idea. It was rough, but the potential was there.”

He continued,

“I’ve always loved action, superheroes, anime, and spy stories. I wanted to blend all of that into something original—with my own twist. The mix of adrenaline, storytelling through fists, and high stakes really pushed me to build this into something bigger.”

On why the movie was made, Richardson added:

“This was originally going to be a web series. But over time, I became more excited about the challenge of telling the story in a tighter, more focused format. What started as a backup plan became something I truly believe in. I want audiences to feel that CSO is something special.”

Tickets are available now through JAD Events until July 13th.
Physical tickets will also be sold at Caribbean Cinemas on both premiere nights.

SKMF Highlights local talent for festival

Since the launch of the St. Kitts Music Festival in 1996, some have argued over the level of exposure provided to homegrown talent.

This debate has always been emotional, and though with good intentions, wrongly placed.

The reality however, is quite different. The ratio of local acts has always been very high and in some instances, with there being more local artistes than those visiting. This year, the committee is again giving opportunities for 11 acts, spread across the three nights.

The problem in the past has never truly been a deficiency in local performers, because many who argue for local acts create the real problem that does exist. That problem is related to the fans not turning up at the venue early enough to give these artistes the opportunity to perform in front of a large audience.

Others argue that some of these artistes should be given opportunities in the prime time, but this too does not correspond with the reality. Many local acts have in fact been positioned, in the past, in great time slots, with some bringing down the curtain.

Therefore, the true effort that is needed is for
local and visiting fans to show up early to give a local acts a large audience to welcome them on stage.

On Thursday, June 26—Opening Night of the 27th annual St. Kitts Music Festival—reigning Power Soca Monarch champs Akaiiusweet and Tobap will bring the same “Wicked” performance that earned them top honours at Sugar Mas 53.

The Honey Bees String Band out of Nevis will make history as the first of its kind to perform at the festival. Also bringing their infectious energy to the stage is Kollision Band, fresh off their Road March-winning hit “Keys to the City.” Their fan-favorite track and vibrant presence promise to be a highlight of the evening.

Cultural ambassador, DJ Tero, will bring his international appeal to the global entertainment industry with passion and energy on night two, Friday, June 27.

Collin Wyatt will be sure to let the visitors know that “SK Sweet” while praising the “Most High Forever”. Ideli Napi comes to the festival stage for the first time with the message that we “Mus Mek It”.

Back from his first international tour, Dejour will serve his festival guests “Red Wine” while advocating to “Let Me Be”. This year, the St Kitts Steel Orchestra (SKSO) will be one of the homegrown acts featured on the festival’s main stage at the Warner Park Stadium on Friday, June 27. The band will perform a dynamic set, including reggae, dancehall, calypso and soca.

The final night of the St. Kitts Music Festival—Saturday, June 28—will spotlight Olympian and former national sprint queen Virgil Hodge, performing her latest hit, “Can’t Bring Me Down,” along with other fan favorites. Also making her festival debut is Nevis-born, U.S.-based singer-songwriter Abena Amory. She is the daughter of the late Hon. Vance Amory, former Premier of Nevis.

JUSTICE FOR “OJ” Demanded by demonstrators.

Today, 6th June, 2025, marks two years since the brutal murder of well known business man, Alden Maynard, aka OJ, but still no one has been made to pay for his killing, according to family and close friends who demonstrated today in front of the police headquarters in Basseterre, St. Kitts.

The demonstration, which was peaceful and deliberately small, demanded justice.

It was back on 6th June, 2023, in the early morning, when Oj’s bullet riddled body was discovered on the FT Williams Highway, Buckley’s, in the western part of Basseterre.

Reports then indicated that he was killed by unknown gunmen while driving in the area.

Though police reported back then that one man was arrested a few days after, on 10th June, 2023, the case seems to have gone cold, leaving the family and close friends frustrated with the lack of progress.

Maynard’s killing occurred one day after the country had recorded a double murder.

The murder of OJ, took the homicide count up to June that year, up to 15, which was 3 more than the 12 for the same period in 2022.

What also seems to be driving the frustration of Maynard’s family is the lack of information from local authorities.

Other families of victims of murder have also criticized the police for their poor communication in such matters.

OCMF 2025: Vybz Kartel Pulls Out – Organisers Issue Apology, But The Show Will Go On

The organisers of the One Caribbean Music Festival (OCMF) wish to issue a sincere and heartfelt apology to fans of internationally renowned Dancehall artiste Adidja Palmer, professionally known as Vybz Kartel, following a press statement issued today by local advertising agency Lonsdale Saatchi & Saatchi, on behalf of his international management team, confirming that the artiste will no longer be performing at the highly anticipated event tonight.

Vybz Kartel was formally contracted to perform at OCMF 2025 for a total sum of USD$1.35million.

To date, USD$950,000 has been paid directly to the artiste, while an additional USD$150,000 was disbursed to his legal team.

In the release they also stated that “earlier this week Kartel's management team asked the organisers to adjust his travel itinerary by rescheduling his flight to May 30, which was met in "good faith.".

"The remaining balance due was made available in full, however, due to legal and financial regulations in TT, the organisers were unable to disburse the final amount in cash."

The festival organizers also indicated that they learned of Kartel’s cancellation like everyone else-via social media- 5 hours before show time.

"While this sudden and disappointing development is beyond the control of the organisers, OCMF will proceed as planned.

"With all licences, permits and personnel in place and with key performers already on the island, including Malie Donn, Chronic Law, Rvssian, and The Ruffcut Band alongside headliners Moliy and Sizzla Kalonji en route to Trinidad, fans can rest assured that the show is still on."

On OCMF's website, it states that patrons could receive a full refund, if the event is cancelled.

Vybz Kartel Not appearing tonight.

The Jamaican dancehall artiste says that he will not be performing in Trinidad tonight at the One Caribbean Music Festival.

Agents for the artiste explain that this is due to the non fulfillment of obligations by the local promoters. Kartel’s performance had been long anticipated but was also embroiled in controversy.

The government eventually granted the permit for his appearance but with certain strict conditions, including no contact with children and limited media appearances and movements.

Some of this is connected to his past legal troubles for serious crimes in Jamaica, for which he was incarcerated for over 13 years, but eventually freed by the Privy Council, on legal technicalities.

Kartel has appeared at sold out concerts throughout the Caribbean and North America since his prison release. A concert appearance in Panama was also recently cancelled due to similar circumstances and shortcomings by the promoters.

He is due to appear in St. Kitts next month.
