South Korea Extends Stay Period for Parents of Foreign Children 🇰🇷
Seoul, South Korea — The Ministry of Justice of South Korea has announced a new policy extending the stay period for parents of foreign children living in the country.
Under the new rule, if a foreign child is born in South Korea or entered the country at a young age and is studying in elementary, middle, or high school with legal residency status, their parents or guardians will now be allowed to stay in South Korea until the child turns 24 years old.
Previously, parents were allowed to stay only until one year after the child turned 19 or graduated from high school.
The government said the policy aims to support foreign children as they prepare for university, employment, or vocational training, allowing them to receive continued family support while adapting to Korean society.
The policy took effect on February 26, 2026, and was officially announced on March 6, 2026.
