5•31•24 ~ DMZ
We took a tour to the DMZ (the demilitarized zone between the North and South Korea border). We were able to enter an infiltration tunnel built by North Korea to invade the South and got about 170 meters from the North Korean border underground. What an incredible experience to see North Korea from across the border. We were surprised by the infrastructure and the amount of people we saw working in the fields. After we returned to Seoul we had a bowl of noodles and dumplings that were Michelin rated and we ended the night at a street party/dance that we stumbled upon. They were throwing ramen noodles and face masks into the crowd. We both caught something. 😃 it was our last full day in South Korea and it was one we will never forget!

5•30•24 ~ Seoul
We walked around an old palace that used to be the home of the king and queen hundreds of years ago. It was very interesting, but the best part was the queen’s garden. Very beautiful! We also went to a giant fish market. It was easily the biggest fish market we have ever been to. We taste tested some baby crabs, squid, and shrimp😃 For dinner we had actual BBQ this time. So incredibly good- 10/10. We only put on 9 miles today but it sure felt like more. Seoul is very hilly!

5•28•24 ~ Tokyo, Japan —> Seoul, South Korea
Travel day! We took a 2 hour flight from Tokyo to Seoul. After we landed we found a cute local spot for some BBQ, but our meal ended up not being BBQ because we can’t read Korean 😜 Either way, it was fantastic! After dinner we took a self-guided walking tour of a market area. So looking forward to all of the markets here!! 😃

Today was our last full day in Japan! We did a lot of shopping. Good thing we packed light and each had a mostly empty bag to fill 🤓 We went to an Izakaya for dinner but unfortunately it let us down a little bit and we didn’t want to end our time in Japan on that note. So, we took a little walk and ended up finding a place that was packed with people. We had no idea what type of restaurant it was. Turns out it was a chicken skin place! And let us tell you, it did not disappoint 😃 We are so sad to be leaving Japan already but so thankful for a great trip. Up next: a flight West 😋✈️

5•26•24 ~ Tokyo
We went to the top of the tallest building in the biggest city in the world! It was so cool to see the massive expansion of the city from above. We also went to a big Shinto Temple. Unfortunately, we received a bad fortune. We tied it to the bad fortune rack so hopefully it stays there and doesn’t follow us 😟 We ended the day by walking through a night market and visiting a cute Izakaya with a view over a busy intersection.

Tokyo
We found another flea market today! This one was mostly with recycled clothing. Erica even found a vintage Packer sweatshirt for $2😃 We also tried some unique food- a charcoal & tea latte, bacon wrapped rice on a stick, and a churro wrapped cheese dog🤨 along with some yakitori, yakisoba, and of course fresh fish. We stayed out late and enjoyed walking around in all the lights and playing the claw machines. No winners though 🙂

Kyoto —> Tokyo
We took the bullet train to Tokyo today. It was a super nice ride and we even got to see Mount Fuji! What would have been a 6+ hour drive only took us 2 hours because the train gets up to 200 mph. We explored around Tokyo at night and even crossed the famous Shibuya Crossing- where an average of 2,500 people cross the road every 2 minutes. Our night ended with a little late night Izakaya that was clearly not meant for tourists. It was the best local experience! 😌

Kyoto
Another day of temple exploring! Today’s temples were really unique. We arrived right as the temple opened (good choice) so we had a very tranquil experience. Same story as yesterday though.. within a couple of hours it was packed. *Notice the difference between the first picture in the bamboo forest and the second.* We ended the day by meeting up with a friend from the States and going out for sushi and drinks. 🍣🍙

Kyoto
We did a lot of temple exploring today. Thank goodness we are early risers and Japan is not. We arrived early to get a head start and try to beat the crowds but after a couple hours it was absolutely packed. That didn’t damper our day though! We had so much fun walking around and exploring. Kyoto is full of rich history and beautiful temples.

Osaka —> Kyoto
We spent all morning browsing a huge flea market in Osaka. We love a good flea market, but a Japanese flea market? 100% count is in! Definitely the highlight of our trip so far. After the market we took a train to Kyoto. We explored around the city and then enjoyed a beautiful Izakaya dinner on the river.

The Nara deer deserved their own post. We saw at least a thousand of them. They are wild but completely used to humans being around and they love to be fed deer crackers. Notice how polite they are- they even bow to say please and thank you 😌
