Gyeonggi Province is pushing to introduce the Gyeonggi-do Provincial Government wide-area visa (E-7) to attract excellent foreign talents engaged in certain fields such as robots, computers, energy, finance and management, including information technology (IT).
The province announced on February 13th that it has submitted an application to participate in the "wide-area visa pilot project" promoted by the Ministry of Justice on the 7th. According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, 27.5 percent of the shortage of industrial technology personnel is concentrated in Gyeonggi Province. In response, the province designed a Gyeonggi-do-type wide-area visa to solve the problem of insufficient manpower at industrial sites and attract excellent foreign talents.
The scope of employment for certain activities, which correspond to E-7 visas, is an area designated by the Minister of Justice that requires the introduction of foreign workers with specialized knowledge and skills -- skills to strengthen national competitiveness. Gyeonggi-do Provincial Government-type wide-area visas consist of 87 types of jobs, including 67 management and professional occupations, 10 semi-professional occupations, and 10 general functional occupations.
The province expects that the introduction of the Gyeonggi-do E-7 wide-area visa will improve its competitiveness in high-tech industries such as semiconductors, automobiles, artificial intelligence (AI), and batteries.
"The attraction and inclusion of global talent and social integration with Koreans are the basis for regional and national development," said Kim Won-kyu, director of the Immigration and Social Affairs Bureau of the province. "Gyeonggi-do-type wide-area visas will contribute to the development of high-tech industries by hiring excellent foreign students and resolving industrial manpower shortages."
