Changsin-dong and Sungin-dong were designated as the #1 urban regeneration areas by the city of Seoul. The area was famous for being home to the sewing industry since the 1970s and served as a quarry before. Major modern buildings in Seoul, such as the old Seoul Station and the old Seoul City Hall, were built from the granite of the quarry of Changsin-dong. After the nation’s liberation, the quarry was abandoned and people started to settle down in the vicinity of the closed quarry starting in the 1960s, leading to the formation of the village that stands today. When you walk through the alleys of Dolsan Village and walk up a bit, you can find the Changsin/Sungin Quarry Observatory. Its rooftop on the 3rd floor offers panoramic views of Changsin-dong preserving the cliff from which the granite was quarried. Through the entirely glass window on the 2nd floor, you can enjoy the landscape of the quarry in a pleasant atmosphere regardless of the weather. A gallery cafe will open soon for visitors to relax and be immersed in the views of Seoul.
