If you watch K-dramas, you know the convenience store (편의점 pyeonuijeom) is basically its own character. 🇰🇷

So when I spotted the new BTS × Oreo collab — purple, hotteok-flavored, with messages stamped on every cookie — sitting in a CU convenience store in Seoul, obviously I grabbed them. Verdict after one bite: the purple is fun, the “hotteok” flavor is… debatable, but the boys seem excited for this collab because they grew up loving Oreos. And I heard they had an abundance of them in studio while recording ARIRANG. 💜

Who gets to decide what K-pop is?

It bugs me when people say BTS isn’t K-pop. As if it’s somehow beneath them.��What makes something K-pop?

Jin’s solo album doesn’t really have him dancing. Is that K-pop?

Jung Kook’s Golden is all in English with Western producers. Is that K-pop?

KATSEYE only has one Korean member and the group doesn’t speak or sing in Korean. Is that K-pop?

K-Pop Demon Hunters HUNTR/X isn’t even a real group. Is that K-pop?

I’ll be honest—my arrogant and ignorant attitude regarding K-pop is why I never even bothered to listen for so long. If I hadn’t been influenced by friends to check it out for myself—I wouldn’t be ARMY today.

So what makes something K-pop—the language, the people, the dancing, the system? Can an individual be K-pop or only a group?

Someone had to say it 👑

Byeon Woo Seok proved everything he was capable of in “Lovely Runner.” Then “Perfect Crown” gave him almost nothing to work with. Sure, we got the close-up shots, the slow-motion shots, the trope-y dip shots…but without meaningful dialogue can we really call that a male lead?!

And when some viewers called him “stiff,” early on—did they pause to consider the character was written that way? He wasn’t playing Sun Jae.

This story was supposed to be a romance, but it takes two to tango. IU had a monologue in nearly every scene, but the few lines they gave him — it feels like this role would be more suited for a story about a one-sided love.

I know the buzz around “Perfect Crown” right now is all about the historical inaccuracies, but this had to be said.

Am I just imagining things? Or did Byeon Woo-Seok feel like more of a side character?
