The company is co-operated by producer KIM Woori, producer YOUN Heeyoung, and director JANG Kunjae, and in 2025 it welcomed producer KIM Sia as a new member of the team. The company produced and co-distributed the features EIGHTEEN (2009) and SLEEPLESS
NIGHT (2012) were invited to more than 50 international film festivals each and won many awards, as well as released in Korea and received evenly favorable reviews from audiences and critics. Co-produced with Japan’s Nara Film Festival in 2014, A MIDSUMMER’S FANTASIA was released in the summer of 2015 in Korean. The film has been hailed as the year’s best film by the Association of Korean Independent Film & Video(KIFV) and a leading Korean film magazine CINE21 selected the film as one of the top 10 Korean films of 2015. produced and distributed director SHIN Dongmin’s feature debut MOM’S SONG (2020). The film won the best film awards at the 21st Jeonju International Film Awards and the 20th Jeonbuk Independent Film Festival, and was theatrically released in October, 2021. Created by the Muju Film Festival and co-directed by JANG Kunjae, VESTIGE (2021) was produced and premiered at the 25th Busan International Film Festival and invited to the 46th Seoul Independent Film Festival. Most recently, the long-awaited adaptation of BECAUSE I HATE KOREA premiered as the opening film of the 28th Busan International Film Festival and also opened the 12th Muju Film Festival’s live event, before its domestic release in August 2024. Current projects include the docu-fiction THE TIME OF CINEMA, set in the city’s historic movie theaters, and the film adaptation of Kuro Nohara’s manga ON YOUR BACK (published by 6699 Press). The project ON YOUR BACK recently received the La Fonte X INBETWEEN Award in the HAF IDF Project Development Section at the Hong Kong–Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) of the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF). Most recently, MOCUSHURA co-produced the film SUR LE TOIT, UN CRI (A SHOUT ON THE ROOFTOP) with La Luna Productions in France, with production support from France Télévisions. The short film THE TIME OF YOUNG-HWA was also produced as part of the anthology feature THE TIME OF THEATERS, commemorating the 25th anniversary of CineCube, the independent art-house theater in Gwanghwamun. In addition, the new feature THE TIME OF ACTORS—developed through a film acting workshop in collaboration with the Namdo Film Festival—is currently in post-production.
모쿠슈라는 2009년도에 설립한 프로덕션으로 영화 제작, 출판, 강연 등을 기획하고 있다. 김우리 대표, 윤희영 프로듀서, 장건재 감독이 함께 운영하고 있으며, 2025년도에 김시아 프로듀서가 새롭게 합류했다. 장편영화 (2009)을 시작으로 (2012), (2014) 등을 제작 및 공동 배급하였고, 세 편의 영화들은 70여곳 이상의 국제영화제에 초청되어 많은 상을 수상하며 관객과 평단의 고른 지지를 받았다. 특히, 일본의 나라영화제와 공동 제작해 2015년 6월에 극장 개봉한 (2014)는 독립예술영화 관객 3만명을 넘어서며 큰 화제를 모았고, 한국독립영화협회 선정 '2015 올해의 독립영화' 영화전문지 씨네 21 에서 선정한 '2015 한국영화 베스트 10'에도 이름을 올렸다.
또한, 신동민 감독의 장편 데뷔작 (2020)를 제작해 제21회 전주국제영화 대상, 제20회 전북독립영화제에서 대상(옹골진상) 등을 수상했으며, 2021년 10월 극장 개봉했다. 무주산골영화제의 시네마 프로젝트였던 영화 (2020)은 제25회 부산국제영화제와 제46회 서울독립영화제에 초청되었고, 제9회 무주산골영화제 개막작으로 상영한 뒤 2022년 9월 극장 개봉했다. 이외에도 장강명 작가의 원작소설 와 뱀파이어 영화 을 기획 · 개발하여 2016년 부산국제영화제 APM(Asian Project Market)과 2020년 부천국제판타스틱영화제 NAFF(Network of Asian Fantastic Films) 프로젝트 마켓에서 각각 수상했다.
이외에 하마구치 류스케 감독의 저서 『카메라 앞에서 연기한다는 것』(2022)을 한국 출판하였으며, 한국독립영화협회 '2023 올해의 독립영화'로 선정된 장건재 감독의 장편영화 (2022)는 제27회 부산국제영화제와 제48회 서울독립영화제에 선보인 뒤 2023년 11월 극장 개봉하였다. 오랜 시간 기획해 온 영화 (2024)는 제28회 부산국제영화제 개막작, 제12회 무주산골영화제 라이브 개막작으로 소개한 뒤 2024년 8월에 국내 개봉하였고, 2025년 3월에는 일본 전역에서 개봉해 화제를 모았다.
모쿠슈라가 진행 중인 작업으로는 도시의 오래된 극장을 배경으로 한 다큐-픽션 과 영화화를 추진 중인 노하라 쿠로의 만화 『너의 뒤에서』(6699 press) 등이 있다. ( 프로젝트는 홍콩국제영화제(HKIFF)의 홍콩 프로젝트 마켓 HAF IDF(기획개발 프로젝트) 부문에서 La Fonte X INBEWEEN 상을 수상했다) 최근에는 프랑스 국영 TV 채널 France Télévisions의 제작 지원으로 영화 (옥상 위의 외침)을 프랑스의 La Luna Productions과 공동 제작하였고, 광화문의 독립예술영화관 시네큐브 개관 25주년을 기념하는 앤솔로지 영화 중 단편 을 제작했다. 또한 남도영화제와 함께 영화 연기 워크숍을 통해 만든 신작 을 후반작업 중이다.
