Being Detatched: An Interview with Budung

Hello, everyone. We started DOINDIE back in the fall of 2014 and since then have been sharing articles and interviews about the Korean scene. We tried our best to support the local scene by continuously sharing Korean concert news, generating band and venue profiles as well as writing regular interviews and feature articles about the scene in both Korean and English. As you may have noticed, the website is now offline. We have officially ended our services and activities under the name of DOINDIE. We are not finsheid though, you can continue to see our work under our two other brands; Highjinkx and Beeline Records.

We are continuing to create music content as well through our new online magazine hmm (Highjinkx Music Magazine). The reason for moving to this new magazine was to solve some of the technical problems with the old side, but also and perhaps more importantly to enable us to cover a more diverse range of genres. We have moved a few of the old interviews over to hmm, but mostly we are starting afresh with new content. From now on, only the featured content will be translated into English (this will include interviews and longer articles).

Under the name DOINDIE we had published over 400 articles, and organised around 150 shows as well. We had a lot of fun, met cool music fans and artists from Korea and all over the world, it was a special opportunity to make some amazing memories and connections. A big thank you to everyone who got involved and supported us over the years.

Please now lend your support to Highjinkx, hmm and Beeline Records. We will keep producing content, shows and tours using the network and skills we have built up over the years working here in the Korean music scene.

안녕하세요. DOINDIE입니다. 2014년 가을 웹 매거진 론칭을 시작으로 한국 인디 음악 신의 다양한 이야기를 전달해왔습니다. 한국 공연 소식과 밴드, 공연장 정보를 지속해서 업데이트하고, 뮤지션과의 인터뷰 및 특집 기사를 한글과 영어로 노출하여 한국 인디 음악 신을 서포트하고자 노력했습니다. 이제 그 시간을 뒤로 하고 DOINDIE 이름으로 이뤄지던 서비스와 활동을 공식적으로 종료합니다. 앞으로 하이징스(Highjinkx)와 비라인레코즈(Beeline Records) 두 개의 브랜드로 음악 팬들을 만날 것입니다.

음악 콘텐츠의 발행은 hmm(highjinkx music magazine)에서 새롭게 진행합니다. 그간 존재했던 홈페이지의 기술적 문제를 풀고, 좀 더 다양한 장르를 다루고자 hmm이라는 웹매거진을 새롭게 오픈했습니다. 또한 DOINDIE에서 진행했던 몇 가지 인터뷰를 hmm으로 옮겼음을 말씀드립니다.

DOINDIE라는 이름으로 수만 개의 데이터를 축적했고, 400개가 넘는 국영문 기사를 발행했으며, 150개 이상의 공연을 만들었습니다. 눈부신 재능을 가진 전 세계의 아티스트들과 그만큼 멋진 음악 팬분들, 각별한 인연을 맺은 서포터즈 친구들을 만난 특별한 기회였습니다. 그간 DOINDIE에 보내주신 관심과 성원에 진심으로 고개 숙여 감사드립니다.

이제 하이징스와 hmm, 비라인레코즈에도 따뜻한 관심을 두고 응원해 주시길 바랍니다. 적지 않은 시간 동안 한국 음악 신에 속하며 쌓은 자산과 네트워크 그리고 고민 점들을 바탕으로 더 나은 모습으로 변화하겠습니다.

요즘 많이 어려운 시기입니다. 부디 잘 견뎌내시고 코로나 바이러스도 조심하세요!

[Movie Soundtrack vol.2: 찰리 컨트리맨]

여행 중 만난 낯선 사람과 사랑에 빠지는 스토리는 더 이상 우리에게 신선하게 다가오지 않는다. [찰리 컨트리맨], 주인공의 이름이 제목인 영화. 장르는 뻔한 로맨틱 코미디. 하지만, 그냥 그렇게 판단하기에는 너무나 아쉬운 영화이다. ‘부쿠레슈티’, ‘매즈 미켈슨’, ‘Moby’, ‘M83’, ‘The XX’. 지나치기 힘든 키워드들이 눈에 띈다. 영화에서 적절하게 사용된 음악은 등장인물의 상황을 색칠하고 덧칠하기도 한다. 쉬이 잊히지 않는 [찰리 컨트리맨] 장면들과 사용된 음악을 소개해 본다.

전범선과 양반들 / The Yangbans, who have released a trilogy of albums [Love Songs], [Revolution Songs] & [Vagabond Songs] are back after a break forced upon them when band leader and vocalist 전범선 (Jun Bum Sun) had to take time out for military service. The band’s music is rooted in rock and roll, but includes includes influences from a wide variety of other genres. On top of their strong sound their unique visual character (Jun Bum Sun has his hair in a traditional top knot style and wears a Hanbok on stage) makes them a hard band to forget once you have seen them live. Over the winter we meet Jun Bum Sun in the Seoul neighbourhood of Haebang Cheon to chat about his music and various other cultural projects.
