By July 2025, frozen mackerel imports hit 39,292 tons — up 54% from last year. Norway dominated with 80.25% of the supply (31,530 tons), followed by China (9.15%), the UK, and the Netherlands.

📉 Japan’s Seafood Imports Down 32% in July, Prices on the Rise

In July 2025, seafood imports from Japan totaled 1,836 tons, a 32% drop compared to the same month last year.
From January to July, cumulative imports reached 14,721 tons, down 9% year-on-year, accounting for 3% of total imports.

By product, LIVE RED SEA BREAM (+22%) and LIVE SCALLOP (+327%) saw increases, while LIVE YELLOW TAIL (-4%) and FROZEN SCALLOP (-39%) declined.

Despite the drop in volume, import value rose to USD 12.35 million in July (+18%), with the average price climbing to USD 6.47/kg (+26%).
