MOM WHO DROWNED HUSBAND AND SON BY GIVING THEM TO GOD FOUND NOT GUILTY BY INSANITY PLEA!
An Ohio judge ruled that Ruth Miller, a 40-year-old Amish mom from Millersburg, isn't criminally responsible for the drowning deaths of her husband and 4-year-old son last summer, citing her severe mental illness at the time.
Miller faced two counts of aggravated murder, plus domestic violence and child endangering. Those stemmed from an incident back on August 23, 2025, at Atwood Lake in east-central Ohio. According to authorities, the family, part of the Old Order Amish community, had gone there for what started as a birthday trip for Miller, but things turned tragic soon after.
Investigators say Miller allegedly heard voices she thought were from God, telling her to test her family's faith by making them jump into the water to prove their worth. She reportedly ordered her husband, Marcus Miller, and their son, Vincen, into the lake. When they struggled, she allegedly threw Vincen in and watched him go under. Marcus also drowned during the ordeal. Miller then allegedly drove a golf cart into the water with her three other kids inside, but they got out okay.
Witnesses at the scene described seeing Miller praying on the dock afterward, and she later told deputies she did it to "give him to God," referring to her son. The bodies of Marcus and Vincen were pulled from the lake the next day.
After her arrest, Miller got evaluated at a hospital before heading to jail without bond. She pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and waived a jury trial last month, leaving it up to the judge. The experts all agreed she couldn't grasp that her actions were wrong because of delusions tied to her faith.
Prosecutors aren't pushing for prison but want her committed to a secure mental health facility, with a hearing set for March 13.
