Good Step from Meta π π΅π
Meta joins forces with Philippine government agencies and NGOs to launch localized 'Take It Down' - a groundbreaking service allowing victims to anonymously block childhood explicit images from circulating online without ever sharing the actual content.
Meta and Partners Launch Localized βTake It Downβ Campaign to Help Filipinos Remove Harmful Images Taken When They Were Under 18 years old.
Details: Taguig City, Philippines β August 8, 2025 β Meta, together with Stairway Foundation , PLAN International Pilipinas, the Department of Justice - Philippines (DOJ), and DepEd Philippines (DepEd), has launched the localized Take It Down campaign in the Philippines β a free and private service that helps people remove n**e, partially n**e, or sexually explicit images and videos taken of them when they were under 18 years.
The campaign empowers anyone β whether they are children, teens, or adults now β to take action if images from when they were under 18 have been shared online without consent or are at risk of being shared.
βTake It Down is a free, private, and secure tool that allows anyone to stop the online sharing of intimate images or videos taken of them when they were under 18, without ever having to share those images with anyone. This is for anyone β whether you are a child today or an adult now β if the content was created when you were under 18.β
HOW THIS WORKS:
1. The person (or a trusted adult) visits takeitdown.ncmec.org.
2. They select the image or video from their device β it never gets uploaded.
3. The system creates a unique βdigital fingerprintβ called a hash.
4. Participating companies, including and , use that hash to detect and remove or block the same image or video from being posted or shared online in the future.
