🔹 President Tokayev has outlined Kazakhstan’s key priorities for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the years ahead.

🛡️ Security remains high on the agenda. With the SCO representing nearly half of the world’s population, its members have a growing responsibility to support global stability, reduce military risks, prevent a new arms race, and avoid dangerous incidents.

💼 Trade and economic cooperation is another strategic priority, with trade among SCO members approaching $1 trillion. President Tokayev stressed the importance of building sustainable, long-term business ties.

🚆 Transport connectivity is also key. Kazakhstan proposes an SCO Transport Connectivity Strategy through 2035 to strengthen links between member states and unlock the potential of emerging trade routes.

🌍 President Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s readiness to take SCO cooperation to a qualitatively new level.

🇰🇿🇷🇺 President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Bishkek ahead of the SCO summit.

🤝 Following their recent talks in Omsk, the leaders discussed key issues on the bilateral agenda and further strengthening Kazakhstan–Russia cooperation.

📈 Trade and economic ties continue to grow, supported by close cooperation within the EAEU common market.

🚛 The presidents also discussed transport corridors between the two countries and the digitalization of customs procedures at the border.

🏛️ President Tokayev highlighted Kazakhstan’s ongoing political reforms, including the establishment of the new one-chamber Parliament, the Kurultai.

Kazakhstan advances robotic surgery

Robotic technologies and artificial intelligence are increasingly being used in orthopedics in Kazakhstan. Since the beginning of the year, around 50 knee and hip replacement surgeries have been performed using the Mako system at the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration. The system allows surgeons to model the procedure in advance based on each patient’s anatomy. Before surgery, the patient undergoes a CT scan, which is used to create a personalized 3D model of the joint.

SCO Summit 2026: experts highlight significance of event

Kazakhstan plays an important role in the development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and in shaping its future agenda, according to CGTN commentator Han Xuling. He noted that during Kazakhstan’s SCO chairmanship in 2023-2024, the country hosted more than 150 events across key areas of cooperation and also facilitated Belarus’s accession to the organization.

Astana also supported the establishment of four centers to counter security threats, promoted the creation of the SCO Development Bank, and proposed setting up a Center for the Analysis of Water Problems. According to Han Xuling, the practical implementation of the agreements reached at the summit in Tianjin is now particularly important. Under current conditions, the SCO is expected to make a greater contribution to regional security, economic development, and the improvement of global governance mechanisms.

🇰🇿 President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has arrived in Bishkek to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit, bringing together leaders from across the region and beyond.

🌍 SCO member states represent nearly half of the world’s population, with global and regional security high on the agenda amid major geopolitical shifts.

🤝 Following the summit, leaders are expected to sign the Bishkek Declaration and join the SCO+ meeting, which will also include UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the presidents of Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
