Artificial intelligence does not hesitate. It calculates, classifies, and predicts.
However, on this occasion, it detected โ€œno abnormalityโ€, based on algorithms focused solely on bone structures.

The clinician, however, recognized a clear emergency and intervened accordingly.

August 4, 2020 โ€“ 2025
Five years on, we reflect.

The Beirut port explosion left a lasting impact, on the city, its people, and the emergency medical field.

At Panorama of Emergency Medicine, we remain committed to documenting and amplifying the experiences, insights, and lessons that emerged from this event.

Through the voices of our editorial board members, featured interviews, and published articles, we have continued to explore how this disaster reshaped the landscape of emergency care in Lebanon and beyond.

Today, we share two excerpts from past contributions that reflect on the scale of the event and the enduring challenges it brought to light.

On the occasion of International Self-Care Day, we want to highlight one of our latest issues on POEM that reminds us how essential it is for healthcare professionals to prioritize their own well-being.

Like climbing a mountain, the daily challenges faced by medical professionals demand resilience, strength, and perseverance. Yet, true strength comes from moments of rest and self-care, those pauses that revitalize the mind and body, helping us face lifeโ€™s obstacles with renewed clarity and purpose.

If youโ€™re on the frontlines of care, remember: taking time for yourself is not a sign of weakness but a vital part of sustaining your ability to care for others.

This Self-Care Day, we encourage you to embrace self-care as a foundation for professional resilience and lasting impact.

Screening Gaps in Diabetic Kidney Disease Care in Lebanon

In a country facing economic collapse and the lingering effects of the pandemic, this retrospective study analyzes medical records from 258 patients with diabetes to evaluate adherence to diabetic nephropathy screening recommendations.

The findings reveal that fewer than half of patients were screened, despite a high prevalence of abnormal kidney markers.

By identifying key factors associated with screening, such as younger age and better glycemic control, the study highlights significant disparities in access to preventive care.

Beyond the data, it underscores the urgent need for national awareness campaigns and institutional quality improvement initiatives to close a critical gap in chronic disease care in Lebanon.
