رامي : "في العام 2019، أخبرني صديقي البلجيكي عن "بريشوس بلاستيك" (Precious Plastic)، وهي منظمة تناضل من أجل إعادة تدوير البلاستيك في العالم. وأنا كمتخصص في الكيمياء الحيوية، كان لديّ بعض المعلومات عن المواد على أنواعها، لكنني لم أعرف شيئًا عن إعادة تدوير البلاستيك. فأعجبت على الفور بفكرة تحويل النفايات إلى مورد مفيد. أعتبرها نقلة نوعية رائعة. أمضيت الكثير من الوقت وأنا أبحث عن المعلومات وأشاهد مئات الفيديوهات على الإنترنت لمدة سنة كاملة. فعالم معالجة النفايات واسعًا جدًا. بعد ذلك، التحقت بحلقة عمل مع فريق من "بريشوس بلاستيك" في هولندا. فعلمت أن هناك حركة عالمية تناضل من أجل إعادة التدوير، وهذا الأمر دفع رالف وأنا الى خوض هذه المغامرة."

رالف : “ بلاستيك لاب رابع مشروع نقوم به معًا. افتتحنا أوّل حانة ليلية لنا في جونية واستمرّت لمدة أربع سنواتٍ، ثمّ قمنا بافتتاح ملهى ليلي صغير وملعبا كرة قدم بالإضافة إلى كشك لبيع البطاطا المقلية! أخطأنا كثيرًا لكننا تعلمنا العمل معًا بالمقابل فنحن نكمل بعضنا. لذا عندما عاد رامي ذات يوم إلى المنزل مع مشروع لإعادة تدوير البلاستيك، أصغيت إليه.

في البداية، كنت متشككًا بعض الشيء، فكان لبنان على حافة الإنهيار ولم يبدو لي الوقت ملائمًا. لكن سألنا بالجوار واستنتجنا أن لبنان فعلًا بحاجة إلى مشروع مماثل.

أنا مهندس مدني، لكنني دخلت مجال التنمية المستدامة منذ العام الماضي. إن المنظمات التي تعمل على جمع النفايات كثيرة، لكن لا يوجد أي منظمة متخصصة بإعادة تدوير المواد البلاستيكية. فتكتفي هذه المنظمات ببيع تلك المواد إلى شركات أجنبية. وهدفنا القيام بحلقة مفيدة يتم فيها جمع البلاستيك وإعادة تدويره من أجل إعادة استخدامه في لبنان.

نعمل بشكلٍ خاص على تصميم لوحات بلاستيكية يبلغ حجمها مترين بمتر لقطاع العمار لاستبدال اللّوحات الخشبية التي تستعمل لصب الاسمنت. ولهذا البديل ميزتين، فلوحاتنا قابلة لإعادة الاستعمال وسعرها أرخص. كما سنعطي الصانع فرصة إعادة اللّوحات إلينا بعد استخدامها، وسنعيد تدويرها مرة أخرى ونعيد بيعها إليه مع خصم عند الشراء الثاني.

تمثل ادارة النفايات أحد رموز الفساد في لبنان. تتجسّد في الشراكات مع المؤسسات الخاصة المكلفة بجمع النفايات. ولقد شهدنا سوء إدارتها منذ أزمة النفايات في العام 2015.

رامي: " مثل جميع مشاريعنا السّابقة، ولدت شركة بلاستيك لاب في بيتنا، في الجبل. فتخيّلوا ردّت فعل والدينا حين رأوا كمية المواد البلاستيكية في حديقتنا… لكن لحسن حظهما، انتقلنا في بداية شهر أيّار/ مايو الى مستودع كبير تبلغ مساحته 1500 متر مربع في حالات. أمّا الأمر الأكثر غرابة بالنسبة لنا فهو أن الأشخاص الذين يؤمنون لنا أكبر كمية بلاستيك هم أصدقاء والدينا. بينما كنّا نعتقد أن الجيل الجديد فقط يهتم بإعادة التدوير. وهذا لصالحنا، لأنه يدلّ على أن العقليات فعلًا تتغيّر."

كان اللّقاء مع بيريتيك (Berytech) ومايك سانس (makesense) مع أمضي (OMDI) حاسمًا. لفتوا نظرنا إلى أهمية بلاستيك لاب الإقتصادية في لبنان ولاسيما في أوقات الانخفاض الحاد لقيمة العملة، لأن سيصبح البلاستيك مورد ميسور التكلفة في حين أن سيزداد سعر الزجاج والخشب أكثر فأكثر.

يعزز برنامج أمضي أيضًا أوجه التآزر بين المؤسسات المختارة وهذا الأمر يقوينا. ويسعدني أن أقول أن مشروعنا مزدهر، والدليل على ذلك أننا فتحنا حسابات مصرفية في وسط أزمة اقتصادية! "

أنشأ الشقيقان رامي ورالف صبيح بلاستيك لاب (Plastic Lab) في العام 2020. هدفهما إعادة تدوير النفايات البلاستيكية التي تغطي أراضي وشواطىء لبنان وتحويلها إلى مورد للبلاد، ثمّا التوسّع إلى الخارج.

"أمضي" هو برنامج مموّل من السّفارة الفرنسية والمعهد الفرنسي بالتعاون مع الحاضنة makesense. يتكفلّ هذا الأخير بـ١٥ مشروع هدفهم دعم المبادرات الشابة اللّبنانية التي غايتها معالجة قسم من المشاكل الاجتماعية والبيئية المحلية.

Rami : “In 2019, a Belgian friend told me about Precious Plastic, an organization that is fighting for plastic recycling around the world. As a biochemist, I’m interested in materials, but I didn’t know anything about plastic recycling. I immediately loved the idea of turning waste into a precious resource. It’s a significant paradigm shift; it truly impressed me. For a year, I scoured the web for information, I watched hundreds of videos, it felt like a new world was unraveling in front of me. I took part in a workshop in the Netherlands with a team from Precious Plastic. I realized that beyond their initiative, there was a global movement for recycling. This was what pushed Ralph and I to go on this journey.

Ralph: “It’s the fourth project that we work on together as brothers. At 20 years old, Rami was 22, we opened our first pub in Jounieh, it lasted 4 years, then we opened a small nightclub, two football fields, and a fries kiosk too ! We made mistakes, but all these experiences taught us how to work together, we complement each other. So when Rami came back home one day and told me about the recycling project, I listened carefully.

In the beginning I was a bit skeptical, Lebanon was on the verge of collapsing, it didn’t seem to me like it was the best time to launch a new project. But when we asked around, we realized that the market actually needed such a project.

I am a civil engineer, but I’ve been studying sustainable development for a year now. In Lebanon, many organizations work in waste management, but none are specialized in plastic recycling. They just re-sell it to foreign companies. We want to establish a virtuous cycle where plastic is gathered, recycled, and re-used in Lebanon.

We are working to make 2m by 1m plastic plates for the construction sector to replace the wooden plates used as frames for cement. This alternative has a double advantage : it’s reusable and less expensive. We will also give the constructor the option to return the plates after they use them ; we will recycle them and sell them again at a discounted price. “

Rami and Ralph are the founders of Plastc Lab, which is currently incubated by Omdi, a program financed by the French Institute of Lebanon and the French Embassy, in partnership with makesense incubator. It supports 15 projects made by young people in Lebanon that aim to solve a social and environmental local problem.

"كانت أزمة النفايات في العام 2015 نقطة تحوّل لي. ظهرت فضيحة الفساد في قطاع إدارة النفايات في البلد. وبعد المظاهرات اقتنعت أن لا يمكننا العيش كذلك، وأن قد حان وقت التغيير لبناء غدًا أفضلًا في لبنان. تلك العام، هاجر عشرة من رفاقي المقرّبين. القسم الأكبر منهم غادر لأنه فقد الأمل. وعدت نفسي ألّا أفقد الأمل. إن لم يعد الشباب يحلم ويخطط لمستقبل أفضل، نخسر المعركة.

في ذلك الحين، كنت مهندسة فغيّرت اتجاه مسيرتي المهنية بالكامل وأكملت دراستي في التنمية المستدامة. درست في الخارج (فرنسا وإيطاليا والبرازيل) وكان موضوع أطروحتي عن الأساليب المبتكرة لمحاربة الفساد. أتت أطروحتي نتيجة اللّقاءات التي قمت بها والتي لفتت نظري ودفعتني إلى التفكير خارج إطار المألوف. وعدت إلى بيروت مع أطروحتي وبدأت ألتقي مع شباب من جميع أنحاء لبنان لإيجاد الحلول. ساد شعورٌ بالحماس فورًا وهكذا بدأت مسيرة شباب ضد الفساد في أواخر الـ 2018.

توفر مبادرة شباب ضد الفساد منصة للشباب اللّبناني لإبراز أهمية صوته ولكي نبرهن له أن مستقبله بين يديه. وهدفنا محاربة الفساد بطريقةٍ مبتكرةٍ من خلال تعبئة الشباب الموهوبين مهما كانت مسيرتهم أو قدراتهم. فنرتكز على الذكاء الجماعي والنهج التشاركي من أجل بناء شبكة مستدامة. حتّى الآن، تجري الأمور على أفضل وجه ويزداد متابعينا يومًا بعد يوم. حتّى أنّ في بعد الأحيان، أتلق اتصالاتٍ من مراهقين لا يتعدى عمرهم الستة عشر عامًأ ويسألونني "كيف يمكنني أن أنضم إليكم؟"

حتى ولو جميعنا يعمل ويستغرق عملنا الخاص الكثير من وقتنا، إستطعنا أن نتقدم لأن هذا المشروع ينبض بالحياة. والعبارة التي تلخّص معنى "YAC" هي "ظنوا أنّ الأمر المستحيل ففازوا."

سيرينا إبراهيم،29 عامًا، هي مؤسسة مبادرة شباب ضد الفساد (YAC).

“The 2015 trash crisis was a turning point for me. The extent of the corruption in the waste management sector became obvious to everyone.

I realized that we couldn’t live that way anymore, it was time to act in order to restore hope for a better future in Lebanon.
That year, ten of my closest friends left the country, the vast majority of them because they didn’t have any hope left. I promised myself that I would never lose hope. If the young generation stops dreaming, stops seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, everything will be over.

I was an architect at that time, so I completely reoriented my career and studied sustainable development abroad. I chose to do my Master’s thesis on innovative ways to fight corruption : I had met many people who made me see things in a different way and taught me to think outside the box.

I came back to Beirut and started meeting with youth from different backgrounds to discuss the solutions. People were enthusiastic, it was contagious. That’s how Youth Against Corruption was born at the end 2018.

With YAC, we offer a platform to the Lebanese youth to show them that their voice matters, that they hold their future in their hands. We want to fight corruption in innovative ways by mobilizing young talents, no matter their competences.
We are focusing on collective intelligence and on a participatory approach to create a sustainable network.

The sentence that best describes YAC is : “they believed it was impossible, so they did it”.

" توفيت جدتي منذ سنتين بعد مصارعة المرض لمدةٍ طويلة. كانت امرأة قوية ومستقلة طوال حياتها وحاربت من أجل تعزيز حقوق المرأة من خلال توفير فرص عمل لها .
إن وضع جدتي الصّحي دفعني الى أن أستخبر أكثر عن ظروف كبار السّن المعيشية. وهكذا أدركت مدى سوء وضعهم المعيشي : فالمجتمع ينساهم ويصنفهم في الدرجة الثانية كما أنهم يتعرضون الى التمييز الذي يؤثر عليهم بشكل خاص بما أن يُنظر إليهم وكأنهم غير نشطين ولا لزوم لهم.
وبالتوازي مع هذا الوضع، يعاني كبارنا من نقص شديد في الخدمات الصّحية. فالكثير منهم غير قادرين على الاستفادة من خدمات التأمين الصّحي وعليهم دفع ثمن الفواتير من أموالهم الخاصة على رغم من أنهم لا يعملون. وقد ساءت هذه الحالة أكثر فأكثر مع الأزمة الاقتصادية.

لذلك، قمت بإنشاء "غولد كلينيك" (العيادة الذهبية) في كانون الثاني\يناير 2020.
"غولد كلينيك" هي عيادة مجانية يديرها طلّاب متطوعون في حرم الجامعة الأمريكية في بيروت وتفتح أبوابها كلّ يوم جمعة. ويمكن للجميع الاستفادة من خدماتنا على شرط أن يفوق عمرهم السّتين عامًا ويكون لديهم مشاكل مادية. نقدم العديد من الخدمات كطب القلب والفحوص المخبرية وطب العيون والجراحة والتشخيص الطبي بالاضافة إلى الحصول على الأدوية والعلاج النفسي.



وبالنسبة إلى التمويل، نحن نتكل حصريًا على التبرعات وجمع الأموال من خلال بيع أقنعة مثلًا. لكننا طلاب في كلّية الطب، ولا نمتلك الخبرة الكافية في إدارة الأعمال. لذلك، تعاقدنا مع برنامج "أمضي"(OMDI)، وهو مشروع نظمته السّفارة الفرنسية والمعهد الفرنسي بالتعاون مع الحاضنة makesense هدفه دعم المبادرات الشابة التي غايتها دعم لبنان.

إن تأسيس العيادة لم يكن سهلًا. نفتخر اليوم أن نكون المبادرة الطلابية الأكثر نشاطًا في
الجامعة. فمساعدة المحتاجين بقدراتنا المتواضعة هي وسام شرف لنا".

أسيل نحلاوي، شابة في الخامسة والعشرين من عمرها، هي طالبة في عامها الدراسي الأخير في كلّية الطب في الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت (AUB). أسست "Gold Clinic" (غولد كلينيك) في كانون الثاني\ يناير 2020 .

“My grandmother passed away two years ago after a long struggle with illness.
She was a strong and independent person, who fought to promote women’s rights. She used to lead an NGO that provided women with employment opportunities.
My grandmother’s health opened my eyes about the living conditions of the elderly and made me want to learn more. After her death, I started visiting older people during my free time with my friends, and organizing events and fundraisers.

I realized how bad their living conditions were : how society forgets about them, limits them to being second-class citizens, how stereotypes and discriminations weigh on them: they are seen as useless and inactive, only good at watching television.
In addition to feeling invisible, older people suffer from a severe lack of access to healthcare. A big part of them can’t afford health insurance. And the situation got worse with the crisis.

This is why I founded Gold Clinic in January 2020.
It is a free clinic led by student volunteers in the heart of the American University of Beirut that opens every Friday. The only two requirements to access our services are being older than 60 and being in a tight financial situation.
The Gold Clinic has two objectives: providing care to older people in need and breaking the stigma that weighs on them by highlighting their importance to society. "

Hi guys,

It’s been a long time.
The past year has been… challenging, for lack of a better word.

Some quick news, though everything that happened would deserve a way longer post (but that’s for another time).

Tonight and once a week for the next 2 weeks, we’ll be posting beautiful features of young entrepreneurs who are trying to solve social problems in Lebanon, and God knows there are many of those.

These entrepreneurs are part of Omdi, a program financed by the French Institute of Lebanon and the French Embassy, in partnership with makesense incubator. It supports 15 projects made by young people in Lebanon that aim to solve a social and environmental problem.

We are aware that news these days are not exactly heartwarming, or hopeful.
And a lot of journalists and media organisations are doing a wonderful job at denouncing corruption, investigating wrongdoings and generally speaking acting as a counter-power to our useless politicians.
At L&F, we chose to rather highlight the solutions, and the inspiring people fighting hard to bring these solutions to light.

That’s what we will do with these portraits.
