Knooz Room

Knooz Room KnoozRoom is an interactive story-telling group. We transform traditional content into immersive story using multiple media platforms and code.

Knooz Room SAL is a Beirut-based production company that specializes in digital storytelling. We combine code, multimedia production and writing to create innovative narrative, drawing on the skills of a multi-talented team and partners. In 2013, KnoozRoom was short-listed as one of the top 30 cross-media projects globally at the British Film Institute-associated Power to the Pixel; they were the

only representative of the Arab World at that event. In 2015, it won HIVOS’s Disrupt!/Design! award for design work with social impact. From websites to cinema, KnoozRoom caters nearly exclusively to research, social work and journalism. We let facts unfold as a good story would, and we seize the benefits reaped by the digital age to give those facts new dimensions.

Check out our latest digital interactive series with Mashallah News. This time it's about the invisible layer of our region that comes out in the NIGHT. Many thanks to David Habchy, Art Director and to the team of coders from Web Miscellaneous.

The night has a special kind of intimacy. A slower pace, a sense that time is moving in other directions. Places turn unfamiliar in the dark; people look different, do things differently. It’s a time when things are allowed to disappear and become invisible – or to emerge from hiding, celebrate an o…

ROUTES entry number 5, this time written by KnoozRoom's Tamara Qiblawi. It's about the beloved jewel that is the city of Sour (Tyre), and its nautical wonderland, which ebbs and flows with the political ruptures of the region.

Tyre's nautical wonderland has ebbed and flowed throughout its centuries-long history. This is a story about its contemporary fishermen and how the Israeli occupation interrupted their seafaring ways, often rerouting them towards deadly results.

"An unmissable way of 'getting there' for passengers, and a means of making (some sort of) a living for drivers. An exhilarating experience - exhausting chaos."

The latest release in our collaboration with Mashallah News, from the ROUTES series.

A new Mashallah News-Knooz Room collaborative series on Language. Send your pitches!
"This series takes as its starting point a view of the Middle East as a site of intersection, change, and invention of novel forms and uses of language. We understand language in both the mundane sense of the various spoken tongues that overlap in the Middle East as well as the more broad sense of forms of communication which seek to translate ideas into symbols through which we understand the world."

For our third themed series, Mashallah in collaboration with Knooz Room are looking for stories from across the Middle East on the topic of language.

Our first transmedia, immersive storytelling experience reviewed by The Daily Star:

"We shuffled down a flight of shallow stairs, squeezed past the sandbags piled to either side of the heavy metal doors, and filed into the darkness of the basement bomb shelter. Families, friends and strangers sat close together in a semicircle in the dimly lit room, with peeling white walls. When the heavy doors slammed shut with a crash, everybody jumped. Stifled gasps broke an uneasy silence. In a dingy shelter close to Burj al-Murr, beneath the furniture showroom Art on Spears, a mismatched crowd of old and young, local and foreign observers sat down to watch “Shelter,” a documentary by digital storytelling platform Knooz Room."

We shuffled down a flight of shallow stairs, squeezed past the sandbags piled to either side of the heavy metal doors, and filed into the darkness of the basement bomb shelter.
