نفخر بالإعلان عن صدور أول نسخة محقّقة من "تحفة الملوك في التعبير لأبي أحمد خلف السجستاني (ت 1009/399)"، وهو من أقدم النصوص العربية المعروفة في تفسير الأحلام—ومتوفر الآن ضمن سلسلة الشيخ زايد للنصوص العربية والإسلامية.

يتميّز هذا العمل بفرادته كونه من تأليف أمير في القرن العاشر الميلادي، ما يوفّر لمحة نادرة عن نظريات الأحلام، والسياسة، والحياة اليومية من منظور الحاكم. ويتجاوز الكتاب موضوع الأحلام ليكشف عن رؤى معمّقة حول الأدوار الاجتماعية، والثقافة المادية، ونظرة العالم في تلك الحقبة.

حرّرته الدكتورة لينا جمال، بمشاركة الدكتور بلال بلال الارفه لي كمحرر مشارك، ويُعيد هذا الإصدار النقدي إحياء كنز مهمل من كنوز التراث العربي والإسلامي.

We’re happy to announce the first-ever publication of “Tuḥfat al-Mulūk fī al-Taʿbīr by Abū Aḥmad Khalaf al-Sijistānī (d. 399/1009)”, one of the earliest Arabic texts on dream interpretation, now available through our Sheikh Zayed Series for Arabic and Islamic Texts.

This work unique as it’s by a tenth-century emir, offering a rare glimpse into dream theory, politics, and everyday life from the perspective of a ruler. Beyond dreams, the book reveals insights into social roles, material culture, and the worldview of the time.

Edited by Dr. Lina Jammal, with co-editor Dr. Bilal Orfali, this critical edition revives a long-overlooked treasure of Arab and Islamic heritage.

في هذا اللقاء بعنوان "كيف نعيد التاريخ إلى الجمهور؟"، يتحاور المؤرّخ شارل الحايك مع بلال الأرفه لي حول سبل إعادة ربط الناس بتاريخهم بعيدًا عن النماذج المدرسيّة الجافة والخطابات الرسميّة. يناقش الحوار أهمّيّة السرد، وتوظيف الوسائط الحديثة، ودمج القصص الشخصيّة والذاكرة الجماعيّة في تقديم التاريخ. كما يتناول التحدّيات التي تواجه المؤرّخ في مخاطبة جمهور واسع دون التفريط بالدقّة الأكاديميّة، والسؤال حول من يملك رواية الماضي وكيف تُكتب وتُقدّم.

In this talk titled “How Do We Return History to the Public?”, historian Charles Al Hayek engages in conversation with Bilal Orfali about ways to reconnect people with their history beyond dry school models and official narratives. The discussion explores the importance of storytelling, the use of modern media, and the integration of personal stories and collective memory in presenting history. It also addresses the challenges historians face in engaging a broad audience without compromising academic accuracy, and raises the question of who owns the narrative of the past and how it is written.

في هذه الجلسة المميّزة، تتحاور رنا روكوز مع الروائيّة العُمانيّة المرموقة جوخة الحارثي في نقاش معمّق حول مسيرتها الأدبيّة وتطوّر أسلوبها السرديّ. تُعدّ الحارثي أوّل امرأة عُمانيّة تُترجم إحدى رواياتها إلى اللغة الإنجليزيّة، وأوّل كاتبة باللغة العربيّة تفوز بجائزة البوكر العالميّة عن روايتها سيّدات القمر. وقد نالت الحارثيّ إشادة دوليّة لتصويرها الدقيق للمجتمع العُماني، لا سيّما في تناولها لحياة النساء وتوازنهن بين التقاليد والحداثة. ستتناول الجلسة موضوعات وإلهامات أعمالها الكبرى، بما في ذلك نارِنْجة وحرير الغزالة، كما ستناقش كيف أثّر خلفيّتها الأكاديميّة في الأدب العربي الكلاسيكيّ على أسلوبها السرديّ. وسيحظى الحضور بفرصة لاستكشاف إبداع الحارثي، ومواقفها من تحوّلات الثقافة، وإسهاماتها في الأدب العربيّ المعاصر.

In this special session, Rana Roukoz talks with acclaimed Omani novelist Jokha Alharthi for an in-depth conversation about her literary journey and the evolution of her narrative voice. Alharthi, the first Omani woman to have a novel translated into English and the first Arabic-language author to win the International Booker Prize for Celestial Bodies, has garnered international acclaim for her nuanced portrayals of Omani society, particularly the lives of women navigating tradition and modernity. The panel will explore the themes and inspirations behind her major works, including Bitter Orange Tree and Silken Gazelles, and discuss how her academic background in classical Arabic literature informs her storytelling. An in-depth discussion between Riwa Bou Hamdan and Dr. Reem Bassiouney about her latest novel, Al-Ghawwās [The Diver], which reimagines the life of the great thinker Abū Ḥāmid al-Ghazālī . The session explores the relationship between literary narrative and philosophical thought, and how the novel can reintroduce complex intellectual figures to a general audience. The panelists also discuss the challenges faced by writers in transforming an intellectual autobiography into a vibrant work of fiction, and the role of literature in reviving our intellectual heritage and re-raising its questions in the present.

تجمع هذه الجلسة الحوارية المعنونة "إنّي رأيتُ في المنام" بين لينا الجمّال وبلال الأرفه لي لاستكشاف أصول كتب الأحلام وتطوّرها واستمرار شعبيّتها في التراثين الأدبيّ والعلميّ العربيّ. فمن النصوص الإسلاميّة المبكرة إلى المصنّفات اللاحقة في العهد العباسيّ وما بعده، شكّلت تأويلات الأحلام دورًا محوريًّا في تشكيل التصوّرات حول المعرفة وعالم الغيب والمصير الشخصيّ.
يسلّط النقاش الضوء على المحاور الآتية:
₋ الأهمّيّة الثقافيّة والدينيّة للأحلام في الفكر الإسلاميّ.
₋ المصادر المبكرة والكتّاب الكلاسيكيين الذين أسّسوا هذا النوع الأدبيّ.

The panel “Indeed I Saw in a Dream”, brings together Lina Jammal and Bilal Orfali to explore the origins, evolution, and enduring popularity of dream books in the Arabic literary and scholarly tradition. From early Islamic texts to later compilations under the Abbasids and beyond, dream interpretation has played a central role in shaping perceptions of knowledge, the unseen, and personal destiny.
The discussion will highlight:
₋ The cultural and religious significance of dreams in Islamic thought;
₋ The early sources and classical authors who established the genre;
₋ The manuscript tradition and textual transmission of dream literature;
₋ The widespread popularity of these texts across centuries and regions;

Malek Chaker and Amina Suleiman are conducting a dialogue with Dr. Ramzi Baalbaki, one of the most prominent contemporary linguists, on the Arabic language—its past, present, and future. في هذه الجلسة النقاشية تُحاور روى بو حمدان الكاتبة حنين الصايغ حول روايتها ميثاق النساء، والتي تسلّط فيها الضوء على حكاية أمل بونمر، الشابة الدرزيّة التي تسعى للتحرّر من قيود المجتمع الأبويّ والتقاليد الدينيّة الصارمة في قريتها بجبل لبنان. بين رحلة التعليم وتجارب الزواج ومحاولات السعي نحو الاستقلال، تكشف الرواية عن صراعات المرأة مع السلطة الذكوريّة، وعن التوتر القائم بين طموحاتها الفرديّة وشعورها بالانتماء إلى الجماعة. من خلال لغة حسّاسة وسرد استبطاني، تكشف الرواية عن هشاشة الميثاق الصامت الذي يتحكم بمصير النساء، وتطرح تساؤلات عميقة حول معنى الحرّيّة وتشكيل الهويّة وإمكانات الخلاص في مجتمع متغيّر.

In this panel discussion, Riwa Bou Hamdan discusses A Women’s Covenant, a novel by Haneen Al Sayegh. The book tells the story of Amal Bou Nemr, a young Druze woman striving to break free from the constraints of a patriarchal society and strict religious traditions in her village in Mount Lebanon. Through her journey in education, marriage, and the pursuit of independence, the novel sheds light on women’s struggles against male authority and the tensions between personal ambition and collective belonging. With sensitive language and introspective narration, the novel reveals the fragility of the unspoken pact that governs women’s lives, raising profound questions about freedom, identity, and liberation.
