مذكرات كاظم الخليل ( ۱۹۰۰ - ۱۹۹۰ ) المنتظرة منذ أكثر من ثلاثة عقود ليست مجرد مذكرات رجل سياسي ليبرالي بارز كان في قلب الأحداث - وفي معظم الأحيان مشاركا في صنعها - التي عرفها لبنان منذ تشكله ككيان سياسي في مطلع العشرينات من القرن العشرين. إنها مذكرات مسؤول مسكون بهاجس إنقاذ التجربة اللبنانية التي حضر ولادتها واقتنع برسالتها والغاية منها ، وساهم في بناء أسسها ووضع لبناتها الأولى، والحؤول دون تعريضها للخطر. والأهم أنه دافع بشجاعة عنها، رغم الأثمان الباهظة التي تكبدها ، لأنها بنظره تستحق الحياة.

بمعزل عن عشرات الأسرار التي تحفل بها وتكشف للمرة الأولى، ولا يمكن كتابة تاريخ لبنان من دونها ، إنها قصة ثمانين عاما من النضال السياسي المتواصل الواضح الرؤية، والجلي الهدف.

و "أين يختبئ الألم في جسد الإنسان؟
"حين يرتطم الجسد بالأرض، هل ترتطم الروح أيضاً؟
من ذلك الذي يمكن أن يتألم في الجنة؟"
حتى بدأت أتساءل، هل كنّا بشراً في الجنة أم أصبحنا بشراً عندما وطأت قدما آدم الأرض؟
لعل ما نقرأه الآن ليس رواية بل كتاباً كان بيد آدم طيلة الوقت يُدون عليه ما مرّ به، ما كان ينقصه، ما كان يخشاه، ما كان يفتقده، وما كان يحلمه به، وما يحزنه حد البكاء، وما يفرحه حد التحليق. ورطتني بالاسئلة، واربكني أنني سأمضي عمراً في البحث عن إجابات، كم أخشى ألا أجدها. حينها سأعود لاقرأ الرواية من جديد، فيها السؤال، أم الإجابة هي أن تقرأ السؤال عشرات المرات....
كم يلزمني من العمر لأدرك كامل هذه الرواية؟!
فلتذهب كل الروايات التي كُتِبَت عن آدم إلى الجحيم، بعد هذه الرواية لم يكتب أحد عن آدم وحواء شيئاً ولن يكتُب.
دمتَ يا عراب الرواية.
"كلّ شيء تغيَّر في حياةِ آدمَ منذ ظهورها، صحيحٌ أنّ شيئًا لم يكن ينقصه، لكنه حين رآها أدركَ أن كلَّ الأشياء كانت ناقصة".

“من أين أبدأك يا غزّة،من أين؟ قولي لي، كي يتوقّف هذيان الكلام في رأسي. ارفعي سبابتك واختاري السطر الأوّل الذي يليق بطلّتك على هذا البياض-السراب. لستُ أبحثُ عن “أقوى أوّل سطر” في تاريخِ السرد الروائيّ، بل أحارُ بين أكثر أوجاعك إيلاماً، لأكتبَ بصدقٍ صافٍ عن طوفانِ دمك الحرّ، عن زلزالِ العار الدوليّ، عن بركانِ الحرائقِ في قلوبِ الشعوب الهاتفة بحريّتك”
