Givantha Arthasad was a self-taught artist and visionary who helped shape the foundations of Sri Lankan animation.

From Andare in 1971 to Dutugemunu in 1979, he pushed the boundaries of animation at a time when digital tools were nowhere to be found.

His creativity went beyond animation - from filmmaking and cinematography to television and visual effects. He even built his own camera and created an optical printer for legendary filmmaker Lester James Peries.

In 2001, he directed Mahadana Muttha, continuing his journey into digital filmmaking.

A pioneer. An animator. A filmmaker. An innovator. A teacher.
