The Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) for July 2024 was recorded at 194.7, a decrease of 0.9 index points or 0.44% from June's 195.6.
This drop equates to a reduction in the “Market Basket” expenditure value by Rs. 788.98.
On a Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) basis, inflation rose to 2.4% in July from 1.7% in June.
Specifically, Food Group inflation increased to 1.5% from 1.4%, while Non-Food Group inflation jumped to 2.8% from 1.8%.Month-on-month, Food items saw a slight increase of 0.03%, whereas Non-Food items decreased by 0.47%.
The CCPI is a crucial economic indicator that measures inflation through percentage changes in the cost of a set basket of goods and services.
