Typography is the craft and science of arranging letters and text in a way that makes written language clear, readable, and visually appealing. It includes everything from the choice of typefaces to the spacing between letters and lines, as well as the overall layout and design of text elements. While often overlooked by the casual observer, typography plays a foundational role in communication guiding how we absorb information, what we feel about a message, and whether we remember it at all. Responsive design, accessibility, and screen optimization have introduced new challenges and opportunities in typographic design. From user interfaces and mobile apps to print layouts and advertising, typography remains one of the most essential and underestimated elements of effective design. It’s not merely decoration; it’s communication in its most visual and strategic form.
