Sedawatha Siddartha Maha Vidyalaya Celebrates Environment Day 2024 with Award Ceremony

Colombo, Siddartha Maha Vidyalaya marked World Environment Day 2024 with a special award ceremony that recognized students and community members for their outstanding efforts in environmental conservation, awareness, and sustainability.

The event was attended by a distinguished panel of guests, including:
• Ms. Shiromi Karunarathna, Colombo District Environment Commissioner
• Mr. Hameed Sadik, President of HS Foundation
• Mr. Ragu Indrakumar, President of the International Voice for Human Rights Development (IVHRD) and Institute for International Diplomacy
• Ms. Dushani, Co-Chairman of IVHRD and Director of Youth (Women) for World Powerlifting Sri Lanka

Led by Principal Indrajith Bolukadurage, the ceremony highlighted the school’s ongoing commitment to promoting eco friendly values and holistic education among students.

During their visit, IVHRD representatives also reviewed school facilities, identifying opportunities to improve health and well-being for children—demonstrating the link between environmental sustainability and student welfare.

Guest speakers praised the school’s efforts to inspire eco-conscious habits among the younger generation and emphasized the role of youth in building a sustainable future. Awards were presented to students for innovative environmental projects, serving as motivation for their peers and the wider community.

The celebration not only honored achievements but also reinforced Sedawatha Siddartha Maha Vidyalaya’s role as a leader in environmental stewardship, child health, and youth leadership in climate action.

Zahira College Student Selected to Exhibit Water-Powered Bike at Industry Expo 2025

A proud moment for Zahira College as one of its talented Technology students has been selected to showcase an innovative prototype – a Water-Powered Bike – at the prestigious Industry Expo 2025.

The student’s groundbreaking invention reflects both creativity and forward-thinking, carrying immense potential for the future of sustainable transport. This achievement marks another milestone in Zahira College’s long-standing tradition of nurturing innovation and excellence among its students.

The prototype will be on display at BMICH from 18th to 21st September 2025, between 9.00 a.m. and 9.00 p.m offering visitors an opportunity to witness the ingenuity and promise of Zahira’s young innovator.

Indeed, this achievement highlights the Zahirians’ mark in shaping the future of innovation.

Darussalam College Celebrates Academic and Sporting Triumphs

Colombo Darussalam College, Maligawatte, paid tribute to its high-performing students at the Achievers’ Felicitation Ceremony held on 18 August 2025 in the college auditorium.

The ceremony recognized students who excelled at the GCE Ordinary Level examinations, a student who earned university admission, and two young athletes who qualified to represent Sri Lanka in the Under-19 and Under-17 Subroto Cup International Tournament in New Delhi, India.

The event commenced with a vibrant parade led by the college band, followed by addresses from the principal, teachers, and guests. Principal Mr. Ahamed Nibras commended the achievers, reminding them that education is not only about results but also about cultivating integrity, discipline, and character.

In a special gesture of encouragement, the Old Boys’ Union awarded Rs. 240,000 each to the two top students, while Edinborough Products (Pvt) Ltd. gifted laptops to support their future studies.

The felicitation underscored Darussalam College’s vision of producing well-rounded individuals—academically sound, disciplined, and committed to serving society with values.

A Grand Celebration of Excellence of SSDF Awards Ceremony 2025

The Serendib Schools Development Foundation (SSDF) hosted its Annual Awards Ceremony 2025 on Monday, 18th August, at Al Hidaya College Auditorium, honouring academic excellence among students.

The event was graced by Chief Guest, Dr. Rizvi Salih, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, whose presence added great prestige to the occasion.

A total of 98 high-achieving students who excelled in the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination were presented with cash prizes and certificates of merit, recognising their dedication and hard work. Proud parents were also in attendance to witness this memorable celebration of their children’s success.

Guests of Honour, Mr. Murthaza Esufali and Mr. Faizal Haddad, appreciated the efforts of SSDF and inspired students to pursue excellence in their future paths.

The event was presided over by SSDF Chairman, Mr. Rizvi Zaheed, alongside SSDF Treasurer, Mr. Hameed Ashraff, and Directors and Directresses of the Foundation, whose collective presence and leadership added immense value to the ceremony.

Also in attendance were SSDF staff members, who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the event, as well as principals from all Colombo schools, further strengthening the sense of unity and purpose.

The Awards Day stood as a proud testament to SSDF’s mission of uplifting education, supporting schools, and inspiring the next generation of achievers.

SSDF Successfully Hosts First-Ever Inter-School Sports Fiesta 2025 at Sugathadasa Stadium.

The Serendib Schools Development Foundation (SSDF) proudly hosted its first-ever Inter-School Sports Fiesta 2025 on June 11th and 12th at the iconic Sugathadasa Stadium, bringing together over 1,500 students from 17 SSDF-supported schools across the country in a vibrant celebration of youth, unity, and athletic talent.

The two-day event was a resounding success, with girls’ competitions held on Day One (June 11th) and boys’ events on Day Two (June 12th). The stadium buzzed with excitement as students, teachers, parents, and special guests gathered to cheer on the young athletes who competed with passion and sportsmanship.

The event featured a wide range of track and field events, showcasing the energy, strength, and discipline of students from diverse communities. Beyond the medals and trophies, the Fiesta emphasized SSDF’s mission of empowering underprivileged students through holistic development and sports excellence.
