Yesterday, the Sri Lanka College of Journalism (SLCJ), in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI), successfully hosted a powerful screening and discussion of the documentary "Democracy in Debt: Sri Lanka Beyond the Headlines."

Originally created by renowned journalist and documentary filmmaker Beena Sarwar, the documentary reflects shared realities across South Asia, exploring critical themes of debt, governance, and democracy that deeply resonate with the Sri Lankan context.

The Sinhala-dubbed version, translated and locally adapted by Priyantha Pradeep Ranasinghe, made the film accessible to a wider audience, with an English summary provided to ensure broader understanding.

Following the screening, we had the honor of engaging in a live discussion with Beena Sarwar. Participants raised important reflections and questions, creating a space for meaningful dialogue.
