Concentrating on studies is one of the biggest challenges for many students. In fact, almost every child struggles with focus at some point. This is also true for a boy named Nimal, whose story teaches us how simple habits can help us concentrate better and study with confidence.
Nimal was a cheerful and intelligent boy who lived in a small village near the hills. He loved playing cricket with his friends, listening to music, and climbing the mango trees in his garden. But when it came to studying, he had a serious problem. The moment he opened his textbooks, his mind wandered in every direction. If he started Math, he thought about cricket. Nimal touched it carefully, and to his surprise, the lantern spoke. It introduced itself as Luma, the Lantern of Focus. Luma told Nimal that it helps children who want to study well but don’t know how to concentrate. Nimal quickly asked for help, and Luma agreed to teach him three simple but powerful secrets.
The first secret was “Start with small goals.” Luma explained that students lose focus because they try to study too much at once. The mind gets scared when it sees a big mountain of work. Instead, Luma advised Nimal to study for just ten minutes at a time. One small part. One tiny goal. Nimal tried this the next day and was surprised. Ten minutes felt easy. And once he completed that small goal, he felt motivated to continue. Slowly, studying did not feel heavy anymore.
The second secret was “Protect your study space.” Luma told Nimal that distractions are like noisy birds—they pull the mind away. To stay focused, he must keep the study table clean, switch off the TV, and put his phone in another room. When Nimal tried this, he immediately felt different. With no noise, no toys, and no phone, his mind became calmer, and he could understand his lessons better.
The final secret was “See your future.” Luma explained that when the mind feels lazy, a student must imagine their dreams. Nimal closed his eyes and imagined himself grown up—successful, confident, and making his parents proud. This vision filled him with hope and strength. It reminded him why studying was important.
Day by day, Nimal used the three secrets: small goals, a distraction-free space, and a strong vision of success. Soon, his concentration improved. He finished his homework on time, understood new lessons easily, and even his teachers noticed his progress. He no longer needed the magical lantern because the power to focus had grown inside him.
