What Happens If No Candidate in the Sri Lankan 🇱🇰 Presidential Elections Secures Over 50% of the Votes?

1. All candidates except the top two will be eliminated from the race.

Now, the 2nd and 3rd preference votes on the ballots of eliminated candidates come into play.

2. Ballots without either finalist marked as a preference are set aside.

3. For remaining ballots: If the 2nd preference is for a finalist, that vote is added to their tally.

4. If the 2nd preference is for an eliminated candidate but 3rd is for a finalist, that vote goes to the finalist.

5. After this process, the candidate with the highest vote count wins.

Q: What happens if the winning candidate still doesn't have over 50% of the votes from the all valid votes?

A: It doesn't matter. Whoever has the highest number of votes after the above process is declared the winner and will be the president-elect.

⭕ For the first time in Sri Lanka's history, preferential votes may play a crucial role in determining the outcome of this year's presidential election.

R. Sampanthan was born on February 5, 1933, in Trincomalee, in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. He pursued his education at St. Patrick's College in Jaffna and St. Joseph's College in Colombo, two well-known schools in Sri Lanka. He later attended Ceylon Law College, where he qualified as a lawyer.

Sampanthan's political career began in the 1950s when he joined the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK), also known as the Federal Party, which was founded by S.J.V. Chelvanayakam. The party aimed to address the grievances of the Tamil minority and sought federalism as a solution to ethnic tensions in Sri Lanka.

In the 1970s, Sampanthan became a member of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), a coalition of Tamil parties that sought greater autonomy for Tamil-majority areas. He was elected to Parliament in 1977 representing Trincomalee, marking the beginning of his long parliamentary career.

In the late 1990s, Sampanthan played a key role in the formation of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), a coalition of Tamil parties that sought to present a united front in advocating for Tamil rights. The TNA became a significant political force in the early 2000s, especially after the end of the Sri Lankan Civil War in 2009.

எமது உணவுப் பண்பாட்டில் சீர் திருந்த வேண்டிய ஒன்று பார்சல் கட்டுதலாகும். மண்டபக் கொண்டாட்டங்களில் வெட்கம் பார்த்துப் பார்சல் கட்டுதல் பெரிதாக நிகழ்வதில்லை.

ஆனால் வீடுகளில் நிகழும் கொண்டாட்டங்களில் அல்லது உணவு பரிமாறும் சடங்கு முறைகளில் பார்சல் கட்டுதல் பெரும் தலையிடி தரும் ஒன்றாக உள்ளது.

நிகழ்வுக்கு வந்தோரில் பெரும்பான்மையானோர் உணவை உண்ட பின்பாகப் பார்சல் கட்டுதல் நிகழ்ந்தால் சமாளிக்கலாம்.

ஆனால் ஆள்கள் சாப்பிடும் போதோ, சாப்பிடுவதற்கு முன்பாகவோ பார்சல் கட்டுதல் பரவலாக நிகழும் போது வந்திருந்தோர்களுக்கே சாப்பாடு இல்லாத நிலைமையைப் பல இடங்களில் கண்டுள்ளேன்.

வீட்டுக்காரர் வாயில்லாப் பூச்சிகளாக இருந்தால் சொல்லத் தேவையில்லை.

தனி ஒருவர் உண்ணும் அளவை விட மூன்று மடங்கு உணவு நிகழ்வுக்கு வராத தனி ஒருவருக்காகக் கட்டப்படுதலைக் கண்டுள்ளேன்.

கெடுவில் கட்டிய சாப்பாட்டின் மிச்சம் நாய்,பூனைக்கோ ஆடு மாடுகளுக்கோ அல்லது மண்ணுக்குள் போகும் பரிதாபத்தைக் கண்டுள்ளேன்.

பார்சல் கட்டும் சிலர் மனிதாபிமானம்,நேர்மையைக் கடைப்பிடிப்பதில்லை.

இறைச்சிக் கறி சோறு சாப்பாடாயின் இறைச்சியை முதலில் அள்ளிப் போட்டு அதன் மேல் சோறு போட்டு பிறகு அதன் மேலும் இறைச்சியைப் போட்டு களவாடிப் பார்சல் கட்டும் களவாணிகளும் உண்டு. சில இடங்களில் வெறும் குழம்புடன் உண்ட அனுபவமும் எனக்குண்டு.

மனச்சாட்சிப்படி நேர்மையாக வாழ வேண்டும்.

ஒரு இரவுக் கொண்டாட்டத்தில் இவ்விதம் உணவு முடிந்தால் எங்கே தேடுவது? எங்கே ஓடுவது?

தான் மட்டும் வாழ்ந்தால் போதுமென்ற சுயநலமிகள் அதிகம் நிறைந்து வாழும் வாழ்வியலில் அகப்பட்டுப் போனோம்.

சில இடங்களில் பார்சல் கட்டி உணவுப் பிரச்சினை ஏற்படுவதைத் தடுப்பதற்காக வீட்டுக்காரரே அளவான பார்சலைக் கட்டி வருகை தந்தோருக்குக் குடும்பத்திற்கு ஒரு பார்சல் வீதம் கொடுப்பதைக் கண்டுள்ளேன்.

அவித்த முட்டை, உழுந்து வடை போன்றவற்றை ஒரு பார்சலுக்குள் நாலைந்து கட்டி விடும் சூரர்களையும் கண்டுள்ளேன்.

தமக்கு மட்டுமே வாய் உள்ளதென்ற சுயநலம். விளைவு தொற்றாத நோயில் விரைவில் விழுந்து விடுவார்கள்.

கெடுப்பட்டுப் பார்சல் கட்டுவோரை அவதானித்திருக்கிறேன் உணவுப் பஞ்சத்தில் வளர்ந்த குடும்ப உறுப்பினர்களுக்கே இப் பழக்கம் பெரும்பாலும் உண்டு.

காணி பூமியில் தன்னிறைவாக வாழ்ந்த குடும்பத்து நிகழ்வுகளில் பார்சல் கட்டும் கெலிப் பழக்கத்தைக் காண முடிவதில்லை.

எது எப்படியோ வீடுகளில் உணவு பரிமாறும் நிகழ்வுகளுக்குச் சென்றால் தேவைப்படின் மனச்சாட்சிப்படி பார்சல் கட்டுங்கள்.

பஞ்சம் போகும் பஞ்சத்தில் பட்ட வடுப் போகாது என்பார்கள். பிறர் கேலியாகக் கதைத்து மரியாதையை இழக்காதீர்கள்.

உணவுப் பாதுகாப்பில் அக்கறையைச் செலுத்துங்கள். தன்னிறைவான இலங்கைத் திருநாட்டைக் கட்டி எழுப்பலாம் நண்பர்களே.

இதைப் பனங்கட்டி,பனைவெல்லம், பனங்கருப்பட்டி எனவும் கூறுவர். பதநீர் சார்ந்த உற்பத்திகளில் பொதுமக்களால் அதிகம் பயன்படுத்தப்படும் உற்பத்தி இதுவாகும்.

பனங்கட்டி என்பது பதநீரில் உள்ள நீரினை ஆவியாக்கி அதன் பிற உள்ளடக்கங்களைச் செறிவடையச் செய்து பாரம்பரியமாக தயாரிக்கப்படுகின்றது.

இதைச் சீனிக்குப் பதில் பாவிக்கும் பழக்கம் உண்டு. ஆயுள் வேத வைத்தியத்தில் தேனுடன் உட்கொள்ளும் மருந்துகளுக்கு தேன் கிடைக்காத போது இதைச் சேர்க்கும்படி வைத்தியர் கூறுவர். சலரோகமுள்ளவர்கள் கூட சிறிது பாவிக்கலாம்.

இயற்கையான முறையில் தயாரிக்கப்படும் கருப்பட்டியானது நமது உடலை சுத்தப்படுத்தி செரிமானத்திற்கும் பணிபுரிகிறது. பருவம் அடைந்த பெண்களுக்கு கருப்பட்டியையும், உளுந்தையும் சேர்த்து உளுந்தங்களி செய்து கொடுத்தால் இடுப்பு எலும்புகள் வலுப்பெருவதுடன், கருப்பையும் ஆரோக்கியமாக இருக்கும். மாதவிடாய் காலத்தில் ஏற்படும் வயிறுவலியை போக்க கருப்பட்டி சாப்பிடலாம்.

பனங்கட்டியில் உற்பத்தியில் பதநீரை வெப்பப்படுத்தி தனியே நீரை ஆவியாக்குவதனால் பனங்கட்டியில் அதிகளவு கனியுப்புக்கள், விற்றமின்கள் மற்றும் பிறநன்மையான கூறுகள் அடங்கி இருக்கும். இதனால் இது மருத்துவ குணங்கள் கொண்டதாகக் காணப்படுகின்றது.

சீரகத்தை வறுத்து சுக்கு மற்றும் கருப்பட்டி சேர்த்து சாப்பிட்டால், நன்கு பசி எடுக்கும். ஓமத்தை கருப்பட்டியுடன் சேர்த்துச் சாப்பிட்டால் வாயுத்தொல்லை நீங்கும். குப்பைமேனிக் கீரையுடன் கருப்பட்டியைச் சேர்த்து வதக்கிச் சாப்பிட்டால் வறட்டு இருமல், நாள்பட்ட சளித்தொல்லை நீங்கும்.

ஆண்மையை வீரியப்படுத்துவதிலும் கருப்பட்டிக்கு தனிப்பங்கு உண்டு. காபியில் சீனிக்கு பதிலாக கருப்பட்டிப் போட்டுக் குடித்தால் உடலில் சர்க்கரையின் அளவு கட்டுப்பாடாக இருக்கும். சர்க்கரை நோயாளிகளும் சீனிக்கு மாற்றீடாக இது பயன்படுகிறது . இதில் சுண்ணாம்புச் சத்தும், நோய் எதிப்பு சக்தியும் அதிகமாக இருக்கிறது.

The history of Sangiliyan, also known as Sankili II or Sankili Kumaran, is tied to the last period of the Kingdom of Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka. He was the last king of the Jaffna Kingdom, ruling in the early 17th century. Here is an overview of his reign and historical significance:

He came to power under turbulent circumstances after the death of his predecessor. The exact details of his ascension are unclear, but it involved internal strife and external pressures.

His rule was marked by resistance against the expanding influence of the Portuguese Empire in the region. The Portuguese had established a stronghold in Sri Lanka and sought to control Jaffna for its strategic and economic value.

Sangili II is noted for his attempts to resist Portuguese colonization. He engaged in several battles to defend his kingdom but faced significant challenges due to the superior military technology and resources of the Portuguese.

Despite his efforts, Sankili II was ultimately unable to withstand the Portuguese forces. In 1619, he was defeated and captured by the Portuguese commander Filipe de Oliveira.

With his capture, the Jaffna Kingdom fell under Portuguese control, marking the end of an era for Tamil rule in northern Sri Lanka.

Sankili II was taken to Goa in India, where he was executed in 1621.

Sankili II is remembered as a symbol of resistance against colonial domination in Sri Lankan history. His defiance is celebrated in Tamil culture and history.

The fall of the Jaffna Kingdom had significant implications for the Tamil population in Sri Lanka, affecting their social, cultural, and political landscape.
