As one of the featured events of Sri Lankan Pride 2026, the launch of Rainbow Care - A Mental Health First Aid Handbook for LGBTIQ+ Sri Lankans marks an inaugural moment in the course of Sri Lanka’s history. For the first time, a resource of this nature will be made available in a comprehensive range of accessible formats: printed copies and e‑books in English, Sinhala, and Tamil; Sinhala and Tamil sign language video books; Sinhala and Tamil Braille editions; as well as Sinhala and Tamil audio and video books. This unprecedented level of accessibility ensures that mental health first aid knowledge can reach every corner of our communities, regardless of language, literacy level, or sensory ability.

The handbook is led by Dr. Pabasari Ginige, clinical lead consultant psychiatrist at Limestone Coast Local Health Network, South Australia, and former professor in Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya. Her expertise and commitment have been foundational to this work.

Équité produced this handbook to address an overwhelming and long‑felt need to create space for open, informed conversations about mental health, and to familiarise the LGBTIQ+ community of Sri Lanka with the principles of mental health first aid and the importance of sustaining one’s own mental well‑being.

We are pleased to invite you to the launch of this landmark handbook, which will take place on 23 June 2026 from 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm at Mini Auditorium 2, UCFM Tower, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Colombo 8.
