Sri Lanka Flag Flies High in South Asian Football
Sri Lankan football has reached another historic milestone as Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) President Jaswar Umar has been unanimously elected as the Vice President of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) at the SAFF Executive Committee meeting held in Bhutan.
Jaswar Umar received the unanimous support of all seven SAFF Member Associations, securing votes from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, reflecting the confidence and respect he has earned across the South Asian football community.
Having assumed the leadership of Sri Lanka Football just over two years ago, Jaswar Umar has spearheaded a remarkable transformation of the game in the country. Under his leadership, Sri Lanka’s FIFA World Ranking has improved by more than 20 places, rising from 207 to 187 in a relatively short period. This represents the country’s highest ranking in over 15 years and stands as a testament to his vision, commitment, and strategic leadership.
Beyond international success, his administration has introduced a new era of good governance within the Football Federation of Sri Lanka, strengthened domestic competitions, expanded investment in youth development and grassroots football, and launched several initiatives aimed at building a sustainable future for the sport.
This latest appointment further enhances Sri Lanka’s growing influence in international football administration. In addition to being elected SAFF Vice President, Jaswar Umar currently serves as a Member of the FIFA Grassroots Football Committee and a Member of the AFC Development Committee, appointments made in recognition of his contributions to football development and governance.
Football observers believe Sri Lanka Football is entering one of its most promising periods, with continued progress both on and off the field. Attention now turns to the SAFF Championship in November, where Sri Lanka will aim to capture the regional title for the first time in decades.

දකුණු ආසියානු පාපන්දු ඉතිහාසයේ ශ්රී ලංකාවට තවත් ගෞරවණීය ජයග්රහණයක්
ශ්රී ලංකා පාපන්දු සම්මේලනයේ (FFSL) සභාපති ජස්වර් උමාර් මහතා අද භූතානයේ පැවති දකුණු ආසියානු පාපන්දු සම්මේලනයේ (SAFF) විධායක කමිටු රැස්වීමේදී ඒකමතිකව SAFF උප සභාපතිවරයා ලෙස තේරී පත්විය.
මෙම ඓතිහාසික තේරී පත්වීමේදී ඉන්දියාව, පාකිස්තානය, නේපාලය, භූතානය, මාලදිවයින, බංග්ලාදේශය සහ ශ්රී ලංකාව යන SAFF සාමාජික රටවල් හතම ඒකමතිකව ජස්වර් උමාර් මහතාට සිය සහයෝගය පළ කළහ. එය දකුණු ආසියානු පාපන්දු ක්ෂේත්රය තුළ ඔහුට හිමි වී ඇති ගෞරවය සහ විශ්වාසය මනාව පිළිබිඹු කරයි.
මීට වසර දෙකකට මඳක් වැඩි කාලයකට පෙර ශ්රී ලංකා පාපන්දු සම්මේලනයේ නායකත්වය භාරගත් ජස්වර් උමාර් මහතාගේ දැක්ම සහ නායකත්වය යටතේ ශ්රී ලංකා පාපන්දු ක්ෂේත්රය සුවිශේෂී පරිවර්තනයකට ලක්විය. එහි ප්රතිඵලයක් ලෙස ශ්රී ලංකාවේ FIFA ලෝක ශ්රේණිගත කිරීම 207 වන ස්ථානයේ සිට 187 වන ස්ථානය දක්වා ස්ථාන 20කට වැඩි ප්රමාණයකින් ඉහළ ගොස් තිබේ. වසර 15කට පසු ශ්රී ලංකාව ලැබූ ඉහළම ජාත්යන්තර ශ්රේණිගත කිරීම මෙය වන අතර, එය ඔහුගේ කැපවීම, දූරදර්ශී සැලසුම් සහ ශක්තිමත් නායකත්වයේ ප්රතිඵලයක් ලෙස සැලකේ.
ජාත්යන්තර තරඟකාරීත්වයේ ප්රගතියට අමතරව, ඔහුගේ පරිපාලනය යටතේ ශ්රී ලංකා පාපන්දු සම්මේලනය තුළ යහපාලන මූලධර්ම තහවුරු කිරීම, දේශීය පාපන්දු තරඟාවලි ශක්තිමත් කිරීම, තරුණ හා බාල වයස් පාපන්දු සංවර්ධනයට වැඩි අවධානයක් යොමු කිරීම සහ පාපන්දු ක්රීඩාවේ තිරසාර සංවර්ධනය සඳහා නව වැඩසටහන් රැසක් ක්රියාත්මක කිරීම සිදු කර ඇත.
SAFF උප සභාපති ධුරයට පත්වීමට අමතරව, ජස්වර් උමාර් මහතා මේ වන විට FIFA Grassroots Football Committee හි සාමාජිකයෙකු ලෙසත්, Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Development Committee හි සාමාජිකයෙකු ලෙසත් කටයුතු කරයි. මෙම ජාත්යන්තර පත්වීම් ඔහුගේ පාපන්දු සංවර්ධනය සහ යහපාලනය පිළිබඳ ජාත්යන්තර පිළිගැනීම තහවුරු කරන සුවිශේෂී ගෞරවයකි.
පාපන්දු විචාරකයන්ගේ අදහස වන්නේ ශ්රී ලංකා පාපන්දු ක්ෂේත්රය මේ වන විට ඉතිහාසයේ වඩාත්ම සාර්ථක හා ප්රගතිශීලී අවධියකට පිවිස ඇති බවයි. එහි මීළඟ ප්රධාන ඉලක්කය වන්නේ මෙම වසරේ නොවැම්බර් මාසයේ පැවැත්වෙන SAFF පාපන්දු ශූරතාවලිය ජයගැනීමයි.
මෙම අතිවිශිෂ්ට ජයග්රහණය වෙනුවෙන් ශ්රී ලංකාවේ සමස්ත පාපන්දු ප්රජාව ජස්වර් උමාර් මහතාට සිය උණුසුම් සුබපැතුම් එක් කරමින්, ඔහුගේ නව වගකීම් සාර්ථක කර ගැනීමට සුභාශිංසන පිරිනමයි.
