The Media Unit was first initiated as the ‘Trinity College Radio Club’ in the year 2002, as the school greatly felt a need for a club responsible for providing audio facilities during functions. However, its legacy became much more than it was intended for.
In 2005, the Media Unit hosted its first “Radio Club Day” which was the stepping stone for the Media Unit to host events of great importance. This was also the year where announcing was taken into consideration as a responsibility of the club.
The progression of the Media Unit did not stop; in 2008 the club provided support for every single event that took place within school. Other Government and International Schools also called for audio support from the Media Unit in the same year.
In 2009, for the first time Trinity College Media Unit and the Media Unit of Royal College Colombo collaborated to conduct an Island Wide FM Broadcast which was held for one week. In the same year the Radio Club days came to be dubbed as “Vishvasavani”.
In 2010 the Media Unit (Radio Club) was offered an opportunity to participate in a live broadcast session in relation to the “Adayapana” exhibition. It was also the year where the organization and hosting of various talent shows and programs became a norm as the Media Unit hosted its very first talent show “BURST 2010”. Together with this, the Media Unit conducted a stand-alone Radio broadcast, TRINITY FM, with the support of the College OBA and an Media Institution from U.S.A.
2014 was a prominent year as the Media Unit began its Photography division. Since its installation with Annual Sports Meet of 2014, the Trinity College Media Unit Photography team has covered every major event in the school calendar.
Through beginning with just one camera and a handful of photographers, the Photography team became a well-functioning and efficient team.
In 2015 the Media unit was able to produce a timely documentary for the 71st Bradby Shield Encounter which lead the Media Unit to start its Videography division. 2015 was also the year that Media Unit improved and maintained its standards up to the highest possible level under many aspects mainly in Photography & Videography.
Being surrounded by a diverse range of technology, The Media Unit continues to serve for the welfare of the College and its students in collaboration with all the other respective clubs and societies of the College.
