✅Another Session of Senate Awards held on the 24th of September 2025✅

Another session of presenting Senate Awards and Cash Prizes to appreciate the researchers at the University of Kelaniya was held on the 24th of September 2025 at the Senate Room of the university.
Researchers whose papers were published in internationally recognized journals, were appreciated and the Senate Awards and Cash Prizes were awarded to the researchers by Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya. Moreover, the deans of the faculties, heads of the departments, and members of the Senate graced the event.
Mr. H. M. M. N. Herath from the Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, received Senate Honours and Cash Prizes for having his research published in a Scopus Q1-ranked journal and listed among the Top 10%.
Prof. Nayana Gunathilaka from the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, received Senate Honours and Cash Prizes for having his research published in a Scopus Q2-ranked journal.
Dr. C. R. Oruthotaarachchi from the Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Science, received Senate Honours and a cash prize for publishing her research in a Scopus Q1-ranked journal. Prof. Dinushani Anupama Daranagama from the Department of Plant and Molecular Biology, and Ms. S. N. M. Nimasha Dilhani Kumarihamy Arambepola from the Software Engineering and Teaching Unit, also received Senate Honours and cash prizes for their publications in Scopus Q2-ranked journals. In addition, Senior Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage from the Department of Chemistry, along with Ms. A. Harshani Dilrukshi Alahakoon and Ms. B. K. Dilmi M. Rodrigo from the Department of Plant and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Science, were recognized with Senate Honours and cash prizes for their research published in Scopus Q3- and Q4-ranked journals.
Dr. Nilantha Dinesh Ramanayaka from the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education, Faculty of Social Sciences, received Senate Honours and Cash Prizes for having his research published in a Scopus Q1-ranked journal.
Dr. S. P. Kasthuri Arachchi from the Department of Software Engineering and Dr. Madusha Chandrasena, Mr. Kumanayakage Madhushka Piyumal, and Mr. Maddumage Vinu Vihan Perera from the Department of Computer Systems Engineering, Faculty of Computing and Technology received Senate Honours for Scopus-Indexed Conference Full Papers.
Prof. N. V. Chandrasekara, Ms. B. R. P. M. Basnayake, and Ms. Shehani Fernando from the Department of Statistics and Computer Science, and Dr. Isuru Udayangani Hewapathirana from the Software Engineering Teaching Unit, Faculty of Science received Senate Honours for Scopus-Indexed Conference Full Papers.
Dr. A. M. S. Achala Abeykoon from the Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences received Senate Honours for Indexed Book Chapters.

✅Cultural Evening Closes Harmony Week-2025 with Music, Meaning, and Connection - Day 5✅

The Centre for Social Reconciliation, University of Kelaniya brought Harmony Week to a meaningful close with a vibrant Cultural Evening held on 12th September 2025 at the Mee Amba Sewana premises. The event celebrated the power of music as a bridge between communities, identities, and generations.
The evening opened with a powerful Parai music performance by a group of students from the Eastern University of Sri Lanka. As a traditional form of Tamil folk music, Parai is deeply rooted in cultural memory and community expression. The performers brought energy, pride, and emotion to the stage, offering the audience a rare opportunity to experience this historically significant art form. Following this, a group of past graduates delivered a beautiful classical music performance, featuring vocals, violin, and harmony- and peace-themed songs, conveying a message of unity and healing.
The Cultural Evening served as a platform for lesser-known and underrepresented musical traditions, encouraging students to engage with diverse forms of expression. More than a performance, the event became a space for mutual understanding and cultural appreciation.
Harmony Week, organized by the Centre for Social Reconciliation, is dedicated to promoting inclusivity, peace, and social healing in Sri Lanka’s post-war context. The success of the Cultural Evening underscored the importance of music and art in building bridges and creating shared spaces of reflection and celebration.
The event was graced by the presence of Prof. M. M. Gunatilake, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Mr. Wijith Rohan, Chairman of the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR), along with his staff; Dr. Kumudu Sumedha, Director of the Centre for Social Reconciliation; members of the management committee representing each faculty; Dr. K. R. N. Harshani, Director of Kalana Mithuru Sewana; as well as Heads of Departments, academic and non-academic staff, and a large number of students.

✅Harmony Week 2025 – Intercultural Food as a Bridge Between Communities✅

As part of the Harmony Week 2025 celebrations at the University of Kelaniya, the Intercultural Food event, which was held on 10th September 2025 at the university premises, marked the third major activity of the week. Organized by the Centre for Social Reconciliation, it brought together the university community in a meaningful celebration of diversity, unity, and shared heritage.
Graced by Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, along with Professor M. M. Gunatilake, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Dr. Sudath Senarath, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities; Senior Lecturer Dr. Kumudu Sumedha, Director of the Centre for Social Reconciliation; and heads of departments, the event created a truly inclusive atmosphere. Through the universal language of food, it offered a space for people from different backgrounds to connect, engage, and build mutual respect.
A rich variety of traditional and contemporary dishes were shared from Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim cuisines to Chinese and French delicacies. A particularly moving part of the event was the generous sharing of rice porridge, symbolizing the resilience and hardships faced during times of war. This humble dish reminded everyone that shared struggles can inspire empathy, understanding, and solidarity.
More than a culinary experience, the event served as a bridge between cultures and groups within the university. It invited participants to appreciate each other's histories, values, and identities through food promoting reconciliation not just in words, but through genuine human connection.
The enthusiastic participation of both academic and non-academic staff and students added warmth and meaning to the gathering. As the third activity of Harmony Week, Intercultural Food beautifully captured the week’s spirit: fostering unity through diversity, and building lasting connections through the simple, yet powerful, act of sharing a meal.

✅First Session of the Learn to Learn Workshop Series Held at the University of Kelaniya✅

The Research Library & Information Center of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, successfully organized the first session of the Learn to Learn Workshop Series under the theme “Get Involved: Your University Life and Career”. The workshop was held on 17th September 2025 at the K14 Auditorium, Faculty of Humanities.
The resource person for the session was Dr. K. R. N. Harshani, Director of Kalana Mithuru Sevana, University of Kelaniya.
The program was designed to guide undergraduates in making the most of their university experience while preparing for future career opportunities. Through this session, students gained valuable insights on balancing academic, extracurricular, and professional development activities to achieve holistic growth during their time at the University.
This workshop marked the beginning of a series of interactive sessions aimed at equipping students with essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes for their academic journey and career readiness.

✅Felicitation Ceremony for Senior Professor Chamaru De Alwis✅

A felicitation ceremony, organized by the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, was successfully held on 10th September 2025 at the Staff Development Centre to honour Senior Professor Chamaru De Alwis, Professor in Human Resource Management.
Professor De Alwis was recognized by the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Directors (CVCD) as the Most Outstanding Senior Researcher in Management Studies, covering the fields of Business, Management, Commerce, and Decision Sciences, on 2nd August 2025. This prestigious recognition stands as a testament to his exceptional scholarly contributions and his commitment to advancing research in the field of management studies in Sri Lanka and beyond.
The ceremony was graced by Professor Bandara Wanninayake, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, and faculty members, who gathered to celebrate this proud moment and to honor Professor De Alwis’s remarkable achievements. The faculty takes immense pride in this recognition, which adds great value and prestige to the University of Kelaniya.
