*Professional Growth & Team-Building Workshop Empowers SMF Members*

A *Professional Growth and Team-Building Workshop* (ProGrow 1.0) was successfully conducted for the members of the *Student Media Forum (SMF)* on *28th September 2025*.

The workshop was organized under the guidance of the *MIC* and *teacher-in-charges*, with the aim of enhancing the leadership and communication skills of the SMF members, and teaching them about professional collaboration.

The workshop was designed as a dynamic and interactive session. It featured a variety of *team-based activities* and *skill-development programs* that fostered unity and boosted confidence.

It also prepared students for the upcoming events on the SMF calendar. The Student Media Forum heartily thanks the organizers and teachers for their continuous support and motivation to make the workshop a great success.

Zahira College Mawanella student Represents college at All-Island Meelad Day Celebrations 2025

Zahira College, Mawanella, is pleased to share that Emaadh Abdullah, SMF ZEST Editor in chief, a Prefect of the College, represented the school at the All-Island Meelad Day Celebrations 2025 held on 15th of November at Zahira College, Ginthota – Galle.

Emaadh participated in the English Speech category and presented his speech confidently, earning appreciation from the audience. His participation highlighted the school’s commitment to encouraging students to take part in national-level events and enhance their public speaking skills.

The event was held at the Auditorium of Zahira National School, Galle and was graced by the Deputy Minister of Vocational Education as Chief Guest.

Zahira College, Mawanella, congratulates Emaadh for his participation and for representing the school with dedication.

Zahira College Students Excel in Martin Wickramasinghe Essay Competition

We are delighted to announce that student of Zahira College Mawanella have brought honour and pride to the school by securing top positions in the Martin Wickramasinghe Essay Competition, organized by the National Library and Documentation Services Board in collaboration with the *Martin Wickramasinghe Trust*.

*Hajara Ilyas*, a Grade 11 student, secured *3rd Place in the English Essay Category*, while she achieved *7th Place in the Tamil Essay Category*, showcasing excellence in both linguistic mediums.

As part of the recognition, Hajara Ilyas was awarded a valuable collection of books by the National Library. In a gracious and inspiring gesture, she has *donated the entire book collection to the school library*, enhancing its resources for the benefit of her peers.

*Special Assembly Marks Meelad-un-Nabi at Zahira College, Mawanella*

A special morning assembly to mark *Meelad-un-Nabi* was held *last Wednesday, on the 10th of September at Zahira College, Mawanella*. The assembly, presided over by the Principal, featured a heartfelt sermon delivered by our *special guest, Mr. Husny Haneefa,* Lecturer at Ayesha College of Higher Education.

The event was both touching and meaningful, focusing on a powerful message from the life of our beloved Prophet Muhammad : to respect every human being, regardless of their background, and to never hurt anyone’s feelings. The program served as a gentle yet strong reminder that the Prophet treated all with kindness, mercy, and fairness.

Adding a vibrant and heartfelt touch to the event, the talented *Grade 8 girls* took the lead in organizing yet another program to mark the day. With great love and dedication, they presented nasheeds, speeches, and a beautiful short drama that moved many hearts. The atmosphere throughout was one of peace, reflection, and spiritual upliftment.
This memorable event inspired students to reflect deeply on the Prophet’s example and to carry those values—compassion, respect, and understanding—into their daily lives.

தரம் 6 தேசிய குடியியல் கல்வி பாடப்புத்தகத்தில் மாவனல்லை ஸாஹிரா கல்லூரியின் படம்

Zahira College Mawanella Featured in National Citizenship Education Textbook

மாவனல்லை ஸாஹிரா கல்லூரி மாணவர்களின் புகைப்படம், இலங்கையின் அனைத்து பள்ளிகளிலும் கற்பிக்கப்படும் புதிய தொகுதி அடிப்படையிலான பாடத்திட்டத்தின் 6ஆம் வகுப்பு குடிமை பாடப்புத்தகத்தின் (2ஆம் பக்கம்) இடம்பெற்றுள்ளது என்பது ஒரு பெருமைமிகு சாதனையாகும்.

அந்தப் புகைப்படம், மாணவர்கள் செயற்பாடாக குடிமைப் பணிகளில் ஈடுபடும் தருணத்தைப் பதிவு செய்கிறது. இது ஒற்றுமை, பொறுப்பு, செயற்பாட்டு குடிமை போன்ற மதிப்புகளை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறது.

Zahira College, Mawanella, has reached a proud milestone with a photograph of its students being featured in the Grade 6 Civics textbook (2nd page) of the new module-based syllabus used across Sri Lankan schools.

Yaseen Nana Retires After Decades of Service at Zahira College
யாசீன் நானா ஓய்வு பெறுகிறார்…

யாசீன் நானா என்றால் சாஹிரா கல்லூரியில் அனைவராலும் அறியப்பட்ட, அறிமுகமே அவசியமில்லாத ஒருவராக விளங்குபவர். சுமார் மூன்று தசாப்தங்களாக ( சுமார் 30 ஆண்டுகள்) எங்கள் கல்லூரியில் சிற்றூழியராகச் சேவை ஆற்றி, தன்னலமற்ற உழைப்புடன் தனது கடமைகளை நிறைவேற்றியுள்ளார். இவ்வாரத்துடன் அவர் ஓய்வு பெறுகிறார்.

எல்லாம் வல்ல இறைவன், அவர் செய்த சேவைகளை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு, அவரது வாழ்நாளில் நலமும் மகிழ்ச்சியும் அருளட்டும் என்று பாடசாலை சமூகத்தின் சார்பாக எங்கள் இதயம் கனிந்த பிரார்த்தனைகளையும் வாழ்த்துகளையும் தெரிவிக்கிறோம்.

When we say Yaseen Nana, he is a well-known figure at Zahira College, a person who needs no introduction. For nearly three decades (around 30 years), he has served the college with dedication and commitment as a minor staff member, carrying out his duties with sincerity and selflessness.
This week marks his retirement from service.

We pray that the Almighty accepts his services and blesses him with good health, happiness, & peace in the years to come.

Zahira College Mawanella Excels in Grade 5 Scholarship Examination 2025

Zahira College, Mawanella has achieved outstanding results in the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination 2025. A total of 220 students from the school sat for the examination this year.

Out of them, 42 students (19%) scored above the district cut-off mark of 134, while an impressive 187 students (85%) scored above 70 marks. The highest mark recorded by a student of the College was 164.

The Principal and school administration extended heartfelt congratulations to all the students for their achievements. They also expressed deep gratitude to the dedicated Primary Section teachers, Assistant Principal – Primary, School Management Committee (SMC), School Development Executive Committee (SDEC), Old Boys’ Association (OBA), Old Girls’ Association (OGA), subcommittees, and parents for their invaluable contributions towards this success.

This collective effort and teamwork have enabled Zahira College, Mawanella to continue its proud tradition of academic excellence.
