Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) takes place in Rockport City, where illegal street racing is controlled by a powerful group called the Blacklist. When the player arrives as a new racer, they quickly attract attention, especially from Clarence “Razor” Callahan. Razor challenges the player to a major race and forces them to bet their BMW M3 GTR. Before the race, Razor’s crew secretly sabotages the car, causing the engine to fail. Razor wins unfairly, takes the BMW, and rises to the number one position on the Blacklist. The police arrive immediately, but a woman named Mia Townsend helps the player escape from Sergeant Cross.
With no car and no reputation, the player must start over. Mia guides them as they challenge each Blacklist racer one by one. To defeat them, the player has to win races, survive police pursuits, and earn enough bounty. As the player climbs the Blacklist, Rockport becomes more dangerous, with tougher racers and stronger police forces. Eventually, the player reaches Razor and defeats him, reclaiming the stolen BMW M3 GTR. Right after the final race, Mia reveals she is an undercover cop but secretly helps the player escape by giving back the keys. The entire police force chases the player, but they finally escape Rockport by jumping the broken Waterworks bridge, ending the story.
