🔴 FACT CHECK: FALSE
🚨 A viral social media post claims that gas cylinders have expiration dates and offers instructions on how to decode these dates.
However, according to the Marketing Manager of Litro Gas, gas cylinders do not have expiry dates. Instead, shroud plates display information like the cylinder standard reference, manufacturer name, identification marks, serial number, tare weight, tested and design pressures, tested date (month and year), ownership, and filling quantities. The tested date is shown in a simple month and year format without alphabetical codes. Litro Gas follows the SLS 1178:2013 quality standard, which does not require an expiry date. In some countries like India, codes indicate retesting dates for safety checks. The service life of a gas cylinder is influenced by usage, wear and tear, rusting, and atmospheric conditions, with regular inspections during refilling ensuring safety by identifying and removing damaged cylinders.
