Struggling to study effectively? Here are 3 reasons you might be avoiding it.

My interpretation of an effective study session is something like this; going over the material you have studied over the past two days in two hours while understanding the concept in its entirety.

Why We are Avoiding it?

1. Procrastination:

You constantly put things off, telling yourself, "It's only the beginning of the semester; I still have time."

Effective Study or Last Minute Study

2. Lack of Planning:

The majority of us, including myself in the past year, just do whatever needs to be done at the moment without thinking things through.

3. Focus only on goals, not the process:

As stated in the book by James Clear “if successful and unsuccessful people share the same goal, then the goals cannot be what differentiate winners from the losers”.

Anyone can set goals, but achieving satisfying results will be made easier with a system that gradually gets better each day.

"Remember, effective studying is about consistency and planning. Start today!"

What keeps you from being exceptional?

What is the source of life? What is that one thing if we metaphorically speaking keeps us alive even when there is no water or food? For me, it is eager to live an extraordinary life. I always believe my life had outstanding days. But as I conclude my life so far was ordinary. Everyone is born to become remarkable. The fact that many of the souls that roam in this world are not making an effort to make their lives exceptional is problematic while living the precious life they were granted. The majority of people are attached to a “daily routine”, they can’t find anything outside of it.

Typically, fears trap people within a limited circle, where the boundaries lock away people from opportunities. Some things could make you happier even with a thought. Imagine your life surrounded by them, imagine you are walking through the path to your exceptional life. But remember the only thing that could make you happier than ever is accepting yourself as it is and absorbing improvement from where you stand. Exceptionalism always comes within. It is not someone else or something else possessed, but it lies in the wisdom that bursts inside you.

Create the best week of your life.

Many of us aspire to be exceptional, and this is no secret. There might be things you've never shown or said. Some aspects of your life are forgotten because you gave up. And we grow tired of chasing our dreams and giving up when we don't see any progress. If you fail in life, you learn from it. That is when you should look back.

We believe you should chase your dreams. Instead of chasing them, why not try to achieve them? Make a plan for a week, a month, or even a full year. Begin assembling the blocks one by one according to your plan. At the end of the day, you will have achieved it without even realizing it.

Realizing the benefits of having set goals and a plan for achieving them will boost your productivity and creativity. My suggestion is that you spend 90 minutes each Sunday planning your best week. Imagine seeing it in your mind every day, Monday through Sunday. And see how you're doing everything you could to make that week the best week of your life.
“Things that get written down are the things that get done”. Write the things you have imagined,

What would my Monday look like?
What would my day from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm would look like?
What would my evening and night look like?
What can I do to achieve my academic pursuits?
How am I going to spend time to develop my skills?
How am I going to spend my time building my physical health?
How am I going to spend time with my loved ones?

You have a whole week to do this. You make your own decisions in life. As a human being, it is pointless to spend time under the sheets of lies. Awaken your mind to the magnificence of the life you have received. And starting today, pave the way for that greatness.

Power of Being Different from the Majority
As you feed yourself with the unknown, expose yourself to the cold air in the morning and warm your heart. I fill my heart and mind with the warmth of wisdom as a writer, which changes how I think, live, and even move. It's my favorite way to start the day right now.
I used to check my Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp accounts as the first thing I did in the morning, just like a lot of people do. You shouldn't subject yourself to the thoughts, opinions, and news of others after a restful, long night's sleep. I would advise you to set aside those hours for yourself. Make the most of those hours to propel yourself to new heights.
A book I read altered my perspective on life. You may be familiar with the idea of the "5 a.m. club." The book's title is derived from the ideas presented in Robin Sharma's #5 Am Club, a motivational speaker. He has skillfully conveyed the significance of rising before the sun.
However, I have to admit that you won't be able to alter your way of life unless you have the bravery and sincere desire to do so. Nothing is more awesome than someone working hard and gradually paving their way to success, in my opinion. I think of myself as a cooler person now.
Was it an easier thing to do?
No, it was never easy. I was a person with a different morning routine. I never had an exact time to wake up. But that was okay with me since I was living fine. But the guilt I felt when I missed some important tasks because of a lack of organization was sky-high.
I wanted a change, and I went through YouTube videos, articles, and a bit of consultation. And I tried to adapt myself to someone else’s routine.
Was that successful?
Everyone needs to realize that you are the only one who truly knows yourself. It's acceptable to observe successful people, but trying to emulate them That's not the right thing to do, though. Become more like you. Never attempt to lead a life for someone else.
If you are thinking of having a morning routine for yourself include 4-5 steps to your morning routine to support your heart, mind, spirit, and well-being. As in mindset, soul set, heart set, health set, in the 5 a.m. club.
Small everyday commitments might not be felt or noticed very much. However, if you stick with them for a long time, you will soon see amazing results.

If you Think You are not Productive then Look for the Solutions Open heartily

I am an undergraduate and I started my journey to discover myself. Other than academics I wanted to grow my social skills, physical abilities, and mental wellbeing. And signed up for different activities within the university. But was I able to continue them productively? I was just tricking my mind. I never grew and hid the truth of procrastination, lack of concentration, and balancing behind the academic stress and exams!

But the real growth started on the day I asked these questions from me,
“Is this growth you are experiencing real?”

“No”

“Then why is that?”

“Because you are at the same point where you have started. And stressing more over the fact that knowing about it but not admitting it”

“What should I do ?”

“Admit the fact that you are procrastinating, not concentrating on the important things, and lack of balancing between academic and personal life”

It took me some time to admit that but with the light of realization, I felt relieved. And then started to seek what productivity is. And believe me, after you get the taste of it you will be addicted to it.

And then I started listing out all the reasons for the procrastination, distraction, and imbalance.

And here is what I have listed out at the end of the day,

I do not know when to do the task
I do not know which task is having the highest priority
I focus on other people a lot
I tend to compare myself a lot
I expect a sudden and fast growth
I do not rise early
I do not manage my focus and dwell on one thing for a long period
I do not know what is the best routine for me
I rarely spend time taking care of myself

With this, the thing I have recognized is the only thing I've been doing for the past 22 years was studying for the exams.

From that day onward I have started seeking answers for these not long ago discovered questions. And altering and modifying some of my habits. Destructing my unproductive habit while replacing them with productive habits.
And now I am experiencing the most productive days of my life.

So if you do find that you are not productive and want to be productive search for the root of it, and then you will get the question of Unproductivity answered.

About Me — Dakshika Jayaweera
Content Creator, For Productivity

I like my name and even more, liked it when people started to call me “Dakshika” as it means “Born to be Talented”. But when started my life as an undergraduate at a prestigious university in Sri Lanka, I started to wonder “Am I truly living up to my name?”, “or just pretending and shadowing behind my name”.

As I am writing this about me story I am on my journey to be productive. It was my very first thought that there could be many out there who are lost like me. And in here I would like to share my journey to be productive and more creative. As I always wish to be better than I was yesterday.

I’m currently in my second year of undergrad, feeling a mix of regret for not starting sooner to travel along this journey and gratitude for beginning when I did. Three years ago, I dipped my toes into content writing as a side gig. Despite enjoying it, I never dared to start my blog, blaming it on lack of time when really, it was my fears holding me back.

But today, I’ve decided to break free from those fears. I’m documenting every step of my journey here, not just for myself but for anyone who might find it useful. It’s a simple step, but it’s a big one for me. I’m ready to see where this path takes me, and I hope others can benefit from my story too.
