Suresh Saleh begins hunger strike until death as inhuman treatment becomes intolerable.
Former Director of the State Intelligence Service, Major General Suresh Saleh, who is in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department, has begun a hunger strike until death, said Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila. He made this statement while calling a special media briefing this morning at the request of Suresh Saleh's family members.
Minister Udaya Gammanpila also made a strong appeal to him to end the hunger strike immediately and save his life.
Former Minister Udaya Gammanpila said that the detention of Suresh Saleh was not based on a court order, but on an order issued by the President abusing his powers under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, and that it has already been challenged before the courts.
He stated that last night, Suresh Sale was given a newspaper as food and only a spoonful of rice and radish gravy on it, and when he went to pick it up, the newspaper tore and the food fell to the floor, so he had to eat the food that fell on the floor.
Udaya Gammanpila stated that Suresh Sale, who was deeply shocked by this, had cried and said that he was being treated worse than a dog, and had even gone on a death fast, refusing food, water and medicine.
At the time Suresh Sale made this statement, seven police officers were deployed as witnesses to listen to their stories, and although Shani Abeysekara said that there was a shortage of officers to arrest Saharan Hashim at that time, he pointed out that seven officers have been deployed to listen to what Suresh Sale is talking to his son today.
However, Udaya Gammanpila further stated that since the government will benefit if Suresh Salle dies, he will once again request his friend to immediately end his fast and prove his innocence by living.
Citing the medical report submitted to the Fort Magistrate's Court by the National Institute of Toxicology and Forensic Medicine, Udaya Gammanpila said that doctors have indicated that Mr. Suresh Salle is at a high risk of committing su***de.
Pointing out that the current government came to power by making false allegations about the Easter attacks, but despite two years of investigations, it is in a crisis without finding any evidence, he pointed out that there is also a suspicion that a conspiracy is being hatched to save the government's fabric by saying that if Suresh Salle dies on a fast, all secrets will be buried with him.
