Academic Spirit Reawakens in Grand Kru County ..Over 100 Students UP todate Registered at Gd Kru Technical College

Our biggest thanks go to everyone in the Grand Kru Technical College, especially our heartfelt gratitude goes to the team at the Admission Office under the supervision of Mr. Darlington Doe for tremendous team spirit to register and admitted over 100 first batch of students (76 males and 21 females) at the Grand Kru Technical College in Barclayville City. The college's projects about 160 students will be enrolling during this Special Academic semester which commence 1st May 2024.

As GKTC hold Orientation for students and faculty on Monday, 29 April 2024 at the Barclayville Central High School Auditorium, we want to request all to please attend and share human stories that motivate students to treat their education seriously. I have no doubt that the VPAA will used the occasion to project the image of the College while the various chairpersons and faculty from each department will market their respective program. Let the orientation be used to reawaken the tremendous spirit of academic in Grand Kru County, particularly the Technical College.

According to report signed by the VPAA, 86 students sit the first and 2nd entrance exams while 76 sit the 3rd entrance exams. Additional 30 students from the TVET Program are being transitioned to the college to pursue Associate Degree. The Technical College offers Associate degree in Six Major Disciplines including Agriculture, Engineering and Technology, Business, Natural Sciences, Education, Mass Communication and Health Sciences.

During the Special Semester which runs from May 1-July 20, 2024, only General Courses will be offered.
These General courses are: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Social Science, Mathematics, English and Literature, French, P.E. Grebo and Kru, Computer Science and introductory Agriculture, Education and Computer Science courses. They will be taught from 8am-4pm Mondays-Satursdays.

15 faculty members, Bachelor’s degree holders from Tubman's University, University of Liberia and AMEU are recruited through a thorough evaluation and vetting exercise, are recruited to teach, with 7 recruited from Harper, 1 from Grand Cess and 7 recruited from Barclayville. Some of the faculty members graduated from Tubman's University with as Valedictorians, Cum Laude and Magna Cum Laude, respectively.

The desire of the GKTC admission team to make a big difference in higher education to give students the chance to earn quality and higher education is deeply moving and appreciated.

Also, we thanks Academic Affairs to recruit these students; the academic team under the supervision of the VPAA, Rev. Tehneseo P. Brohdonyen exemplary approaches to students education worth commendation.

The Administration under the supervision of our VPA P. Dan Bestman desire much commendations for their managerial role.
Also to the students themselves for their infectious passion to enroll at GKTC ehich mottoi: Enlightening Minds to Unlock Potentials.

The college's interim team headed by Prof. Dr. Amb. Josephus Moses Hinnih Gray is most grateful to the GKTC Board of Trustees under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Weade Kobbah-Boley and the Grand Kru Legislative Caucus under the Chairmanship of Hon. Numene T.H. Bartekwa for the numerous supports towards the advancement of our great GKTC.

Special thanks to Senator Numene T.H Bartekwa who is also chairman of the Grand Kru Legislative Caucus for the 50 scholarships, to Rev. Benjamin Bedell for the five scholarships and to the Acting President of GKTC who is also Co-chair, Board of Trustees for the four scholarships towards the two best performed female and male candidates in English and Mathematics in the entrance exams.

On Monday, we will be at the Orientation Program in spirit and hereby convey our gratitude and best wishes to everyone at GKTC.

Grand Kru Technical College Embarks on Two-day Workshop for Workplace Efficiency

To help craft a strong and positive future for Liberian students, the Grand Kru Technical College in Barclayville, Southeastern Liberia has embarked on a Two-day Faculty and Support staffs capacity development program under the theme: Improving Workplace Efficiency, Train, Inspire and Equip. The session runs from April 11-12, 2024.

About 150 participants from Grand Kru, Maryland and Montserrado, particularly students, faculty, as well as representatives of traditional elders, civil society and women leadership will be in attendance.

The two-day academic session which geared towards quality teaching, learning and practical research provides a space for stakeholders of Grand Kru County especially academicians, professionals and students to come together to share practical and hand-on skills, fostering a sense of community and togetherness.

According to the Administration of the Grand Kru Technical College, the two days sessions is
more than just exploring new teaching techniques and acquiring new academic knowledge, it's will be an transformative experience that shapes professional trajectory and standards in education in a profound ways.

It is also designed towards remodeling the Technical College in the ways that reflects globally recognized institution.

The Chairman of the Grand Kru Legislative Caucus, Senator Numene T.H. Bartekwa will deliver the Opening Address, while the Chair of the Board of Trustees of College, Prof. Weade Kobbah-Boley will diver a special statement.

Other distinguished sons of Grand Kru County including the Speaker of the 55th Legislature, Hon. J. Fonati Koffa, Senator Albert Tugbe Chie and Representative Nathaniel Barway are expected to attend and deliver remarks at the events.

Meanwhile, the workshop will be facilitated by several academicans and professional Liberians including the Dean of the Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Associate Professor Dr Josephus M. Gray, who is also Sharda University in India Ambassador to the Republic of Liberia and son of Grand Kru County.

Dr. Gray will present on the topic: Quality Teaching, Learning and Practical Research, and the Impact of a College’s standardized curricula, syllabi and faculty development.

Other facilitators include the Administrator of Grand Kru Health Center, Dr. Wreh and the Grand Kru Chief Education Officer, Mr. Norwane Karmeih; to be followed by group presentations.

Dr. Wreh and.Mr. Norwane will present on the topics: Promoting Conflict Resolution at workplace and Classrooms Management Techniques and fostering professional environment.

Meanwhile, the two days events will be climaxed with sporting activities particularly a football match between the Grand Kru Technical College and the Barclayville Old Timbers.

The Grand Kru Technical College in 2023 transitioned from TVET status to a full Technical College and offers a Two-year Associate degree in Six Major Disciplines including Agriculture Technology, Education, Enginerring and Technology, Business, Natural Sciences and Heth Sciences. In the future, the college will transition to a Bachelor’s degree level.

The College was established in February 2019 through an Act of the National Legislature of Liberia. The Board of Trustees of the Grand Kru Technical College was appointed by former President of Liberia, Dr. George Manneh Weah to give directions and formulate polices to move the institution forward.

The college is suited in Green Hill Community in Barclayville City, Grand Kru County. The faculty of the College including Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. degree holders with vast and professional success, expertise and experience in several fields of studies both in Liberia and abroad.

The college's motto: "Enlightening Minds to Unlocking Potentials" while the college has a well structure both academic and administration organised and in placed.

Friday's Vetting of Faculty

Scenes from Friday's vetting in person faculty was held at the John H. Tubman Reading Room in Harper City, Maryland. The exercise brought together 33 candidates from Maryland and Grand Kru Counties of which the 12 most outstanding, qualified and best will be selected for teaching posts at the Grand Kru Technical College in Barclayville. They all earned Bachelor’s degree from William V. S. Tubman University in Harper City.

The Harper's vetting exercise similar to that of the recent exercise held in Monrovia, it's a process instituted by the College's administration to find a rightful, qualified, diligent and professional teacher for each of the faculty's post avaliable in the college. All the candidates expressed their willingness to reside in Barclayville to able them effectively mold minds and share new knowledge to their students. They also promised
to contribute their meaningful quota in the new trajectory of the college. The Friday's vetting exercise was conducted under the supervision of GKTC. Vice President for Academic Affairs, Rev. P. Tenenso Brohdonyen with support from Dr. Josephus M. Gray while GkTC IT officer, Mr. David K. Constance served as Secretary to the Searah team in Maryland and Grand Kru Counties.

Grand Kru Residents Excited About Technical College

The residents of Grand Kru County have expressed their excitement and appreciation about the Grand Kru Technical College in Barclayville City, Grand Kru County.

The College offers Associate degree in Six major disciplines including Agriculture, Education, Engineering and Technology, Natural Sciences and Public Health. However, the college is starting with the first three majors while the three other programs will be gradually introduced.

Over a weekend, a fact- finding mission from the Board of Trustees of the Grand Kru Technical College was dispatched to Barclayville for an assessment trip.

According to the Co-chair of the Board of Trustees of the College, Prod. Dr. Josephus M Gray, the purpose of the high-powered delegation was for gathering relevant information and to hold talks with stakeholders in the county and undertake a special research about his third book which is being worked on for possible publication this year.

The Grand Kru Technical College offers a Two-year Associate degree in Six Major Disciplines ( a) Agriculture (b) Education (c) Engineering and Technology, (d) Business ( e) Natural Sciences and ( f) Public Health.Instead, the College is starting with the first three major disciplines while the other three would be introduced gradually. The college is headed by a President and two Vice Presidents and assisted by four Deans and a host of qualified and competent faculty members, administrative and support staffs.

Besides, the Six degree granting disciplines and core courses, the Technical College offers general required courses which all students must do. The general courses include: English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Social Science, History, French, Kru, Physical Education, Geography and Computer applications.

Students are required to successfully complete 78-82 credit hours (4 semesters) to earn Associate degree while 120 credit hours (8 semesters) are required to be completed for a Bachelor degree in any of the Six Major Disciplines.

The polices demand for President to earn a doctorate degree while VPAA and VPA earn master's degree and a Dean must hold at least master's degree as well as Administrative Directors and Chief of Office State.

The College contains 45 classrooms which would be used for about 85 sections for teaching and learning purposes. Other offices include: President's office, Vice Presidents for Academic Affairs and Administration offices, Chief of Office Staff and Administrative Assistants offices, Human Resources Director and HR Assistant, Comptroller and Account Section, Procurement and staffs office, conference room and faculty lounge, computer and Internet annex, Deans for Admission and Records, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs offices, Registrar Office, Chairpersons of Agriculture, Education and Engineering and Technology offices and library are all ready for use; they are being given the needed face-lift.

The administration and faculty of Barclayville Central High School have allowed the Grand Kru Technical College to use the entire building for classes in the afternoon, while the morning sections will be held on the college's campus.

More than 150 candidates from across the entire Grand Kru County as well as Pleebo in Maryland County wrote and passed the evaluation entrance tests.

The residents of the county are excited and applauded the College’s Board of Trustees and the Administration for the academic undertaking.

Indeed, the family of the Technical College are amazing people and supportive, they made our five-day facts finding trip to the county a very successful one.

On behalf of the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Weade Kobbah-Boley, it was an honored to present the College’s Curricula to the Vice President for Academic Affairs(VPAA), Rev. Tehneseo P. Brohdonyen during a special program held at the College’s main campus in Barclayville City.

Following the occasion, the delegation was taken on a guided tours of the College’s campuses, classrooms, administrative building, faculty quarters, president's residence as well as the 50 acres of land donated to the college by the people of Kayken, Barclayville.

I'm glad to have represented the Board of Trustees to head the high-powered delegation to the county and be of help.

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the College, setting policies, makes major decisions, and directions for the college.
