FREETOWN’S ROADS ARE FALLING APART WHERE IS THE MONEY?

Every year, the government puts millions of New Leones into road maintenance, but look at our roads today. Potholes are everywhere, roads are damaged, and some roads have become dangerous to use.

In 2024 alone, NLe233.76 million was transferred to the Road Maintenance Fund. About 70% goes to SLRA for maintaining major roads roughly NLe163.6 million from that one year.

So the simple question is: WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING?

If millions are being given for road maintenance, we should be seeing the results. Instead, many of our roads continue to get worse.

The Auditor-General has raised concerns about poor contract performance and weak monitoring, while the ACC has also identified corruption risks within SLRA.

Honestly, sometimes you have to ask yourself: If Sierra Leone is not a failed country with bad politicians, then what else can we call this?

We are not asking for miracles. We just want accountability and value for our money.

FREETOWN IS BECOMING A DEATH TRAP AND THE GOVERNMENT IS WATCHING!

Look, let’s be honest with ourselves as Sierra Leoneans. Just drive through Circular Road, Benz Garage by the traffic lights, Old Road around Samuels, New Castle Bridge, Froubay Road and plenty other roads around Freetown. The condition of some of these roads is honestly shameful.

Every day, people are driving through these places, dodging potholes and damaged roads, risking their lives just to get from one place to another.

So I want to ask the government and the SLRA straight: WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Are we waiting for somebody to die before action is taken? Because that seems to be how we do things in this country — something becomes a serious problem, everybody ignores it, then when tragedy happens, we start crying and giving speeches.

No! Na before tragedy we for act.

We keep hearing about development, but how can we talk about development when major roads in the capital are being left to deteriorate like this?

We don’t need another excuse. We don’t need another committee. We need the roads fixed.

Government, SLRA una dae wait for wetin?

People are already suffering. Drivers are suffering. Passengers are suffering. Pedestrians are at risk.

Please, let’s stop waiting for an accident or loss of life before we take road maintenance seriously. Fix Freetown roads NOW.

Read the damn notice. Guinea is restricting Sierra Leonean migrants from using Conakry Airport.

And honestly, this should embarrass the hell out of our government.

Why are our people crossing the border to fly in the first place?

$1,870 Freetown–JFK vs. $1,095 Conakry–JFK.

That’s $775 extra just because you choose to fly from your own country!

Then we blame citizens for using Guinea? FOR WHAT?

Our people are not stupid. They are doing mathematics.

If your own airport is too damn expensive, people will find another airport.

Now Guinea is shutting that door, and Sierra Leoneans are the ones who will suffer.

THIS IS WHAT GOVERNMENT FAILURE LOOKS LIKE.

Stop the excuses. Fix Freetown Airport. Make flying affordable. Make Sierra Leone competitive.
