Sen. Prince Moye pushes legal action against China Union for unpaid $11M in social development funds

By: Wilmot Multi-Media Konah

B**g County Senator Prince K. Moye says legal steps are being initiated against China Union to recover about 11 million U.S. dollars owed in social development funds to the county.

He explained that a Joint Legislative Committee report has shown that the company paid below 5million of the 15 million dollars it was expected to contribute to the county in benefits over the last ten years.

Senator Moye furthered that the move is meant to ensure that affected communities receive their fair share of benefits from the company’s operations.

He disclosed that documents are being prepared to be presented to the Senate for further deliberations aimed at recovering the funds.

His comments come amid preparations for the company to resume operations in Liberia.

Moye is however insisting that the money must go directly toward community projects, including schools, roads, and healthcare across B**g County and other affected areas.

He made these remarks at the formal opening of the Liberian Senate for the 3rd and final quarter of the 2nd Session of the 55th Legislature.

Suakoko District Youth Leadership Contestant Threatens Legal Action Over Alleged Election Irregularities

A contestant in the upcoming Suakoko District Youth Leadership elections, Melvin Kantor, has threatened to take legal action against the district’s Elections Commission if reported irregularities are not addressed before the polls.

According to Kantor, the alleged irregularities include the failure of the commission to timely publish the Final Registration Roll (FRR) and the refusal of the outgoing youth president to release the district’s youth leadership constitution — documents he says are crucial for transparency and credibility in the process.

He argues that these actions by both the commission and the outgoing president are in direct violation of the established elections guidelines and could undermine the peaceful and transparent conduct of the elections.

He is, therefore, calling on the elections body to take immediate corrective measures to ensure that all necessary documents and information are made available to the public before the election day.

Kantor asserted that he is currently consulting his legal team and would not hesitate in filing a lawsuit against the conduct of the elections if these issues are not timely addressed.

Meanwhile, Mr. William Davis, chairperson of the electoral body, has denied the allegations of irregularities and planned fraud, with a commitment of conducting fair and transparent elections on October 18, 2025.

The election is expected to be conducted on October 18, 2025 and is being contested by Melvin Kantor, Emmanuel Saye Wahkai, Saydee JM Lincoln and Martin Yarkpawolo.

Jeff Dekergai Jauquellie Foundation Donates Educational Materials to Schools in B**g County

Gbarnga, B**g County : Several public school students across Electoral District #3 in B**g County have received essential learning materials, including books and pencils, from the Jeff Dekergai Jauquellie Foundation, a humanitarian organization dedicated to promoting education and community development.

The donation, which targeted multiple schools in the district, aims to support underprivileged students and encourage academic excellence among young learners.

Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Jeff Jauquellie, Executive Director of the Foundation, said the initiative reflects the organization’s continued commitment to improving education and empowering young people through access to basic learning tools.

🗣️“Education remains the most powerful tool for transformation,” Mr. Jauquellie stated. “By providing students with these materials, we are not only supporting their learning but also investing in the future of our country.”

Mr. Jauquellie, who is the eldest son of the late David Jauquellie, affectionately known as “Jack Handle”, a respected classroom teacher in B**g County, said the gesture was also a tribute to his father’s legacy of service and dedication to the Liberia’s education system.

He reaffirmed his belief in Liberia’s educational philosophy, which promotes equal access to quality education for all, regardless of race, physical condition, or cultural background.

According to the World Bank, six out of every ten Liberians live in poverty, with about one million living in extreme poverty. These economic conditions, coupled with limited social spending and governance challenges, continue to affect the country’s educational outcomes.

Mr. Jauquellie emphasized that the Foundation is committed to complementing government efforts aimed at addressing these challenges and improving access to education across the country.

Beneficiary schools included Garmue Public School, Jenneplata Public School, Kpanyah Public School, Diabolo Togbahwahtee Public School, and K. Diabolo High School, among others.

Administrators of the recipient schools expressed gratitude for the donation, describing it as timely and impactful.

🗣️🗣️“This donation comes at a time when many of our parents could not afford basic learning materials,” said the school administrators. “We are deeply grateful to the Jeff Dekergai Jauquellie Foundation for this support.”

Students and parents also praised the Foundation for its thoughtful gesture, saying it has renewed their hope and motivation toward education.

Mr. Jauquellie concluded by reaffirming his commitment to youth empowerment and educational advancement in B**g County and beyond.

🗣️ “Our vision is to ensure that no child is left behind because of a lack of basic learning materials,” he said.

RUFAL Resolves to Continue Strike as Talks with BCTC End in Deadlock

By: Emmanuel Ballah

A meeting between the B**g County Technical College (BCTC) administration and the national leadership of the Rural Universities and Colleges Faculty Association of Liberia, RUFAL, has ended in a deadlock.

The Monday meeting was aimed at resolving the ongoing nationwide go-slow by lecturers of rural universities and colleges, but RUFAL maintained its decision to continue the strike.

RUFAL began its action in late September 2025, demanding fair treatment and salary uniformity across public tertiary institutions. The strike has since paralyzed academic activities at several colleges, including the B**g County Technical College, where classes have been stalled since October 1.

BCTC President, Dr. Alfredson Taikerweyah, had appealed to the lecturers to return to class while discussions continue, but RUFAL rejected the plea.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, RUFAL’s National President, Varney Allen, described the salary disparities and lack of career development programs for lecturers as unacceptable, vowing that the strike will continue until their concerns are addressed.

Meanwhile, BCTC’s Vice President for Administration, James Saybay, says the college will continue using part-time lecturers to keep students in class, emphasizing that their education remains the administration’s top priority.

Mr. Saybay called on students to remain calm as negotiations with RUFAL continue.

World Bank Concludes Field Survey with Panta Pride Foundation Agriculture Initiative in B**g County

Gbarnga, B**g County: The World Bank Group in Liberia over the weekend concluded a day-long field survey and engagement with the Panta Pride Foundation Agriculture Initiative in District #4, B**g County.

The survey is part of the World Bank's ongoing efforts to strengthen agricultural productivity and promote rural development in Liberia.

The exercise formed part of the Bank’s Agro-Cluster Survey Program, which aims to collect data that informs agricultural policy decisions, supports poverty reduction, and monitors progress in national development.

The survey provides evidence-based insights into challenges and opportunities in the sector, including the effectiveness of agricultural research, productivity trends, growth drivers, and the impact of government and donor programs on farming communities.

Speaking during the field assessment in Panta, World Bank Agriculture Consultant, Kelvin N. Doesieh said the survey focuses on measuring productivity levels across key crops such as rice, cassava, cocoa, vegetables, and rubber. He noted that the findings will enable government and development partners to design and implement policies that drive sustainable growth and support broader development objectives through collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture.

Mr. Doesieh explained that the survey also examines the relationships between large agricultural firms and small and medium-sized agro-processing enterprises (SMEs) to enhance linkages within the value chain and identify crops that create more employment opportunities for young people.

He disclosed that the Government of Liberia is a member of the World Bank's five-year Country Partnership Framework, which prioritizes job creation and seeks to address systemic challenges in the agriculture sector, including limited innovation and the effects of insecurity on project implementation.

At the close of the survey in Panta, Mr. Doesieh commended the Panta Pride Foundation Agriculture Initiative for its outstanding contributions to the fight against food insecurity in Liberia. He reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to continue supporting agricultural programs across the country.

For her part, Ms. Naa Dedei Tagoe, World Bank Geospatail Consultant, lauded the people of Panta for their exceptional unity and community spirit, which she said were evident in their active involvement in road rehabilitation and local development initiatives.

Ms. Tagoe emphasized that improved road infrastructure will significantly boost agricultural productivity and attract donor investment.

🗣️“We have conducted similar surveys in Ghana and other countries, and citizens often complain about poor road conditions,” Ms. Tagoe remarked. “But here in Panta, the story is different. The people are taking action and we can only ask the government to complement their efforts.”

She added that she would carry the lessons of unity and community-driven development she witnessed in Panta back to Ghana as a model worth emulating.

Agriculturist Urges Government to Support Karfiah’s Orange Project for Farmers’ Empowerment

(Gbarnga-B**g County, October 11, 2025): An agriculturist, Mr. Alfred Spencer, has stressed the need for the Government of Liberia (GoL), through the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), to support and embrace the Orange Project introduced by former Representative Edward W. Karfiah in B**g County.

According to Mr. Spencer, the project has long-term benefits for B**g County and Liberia at large, especially for local farmers, if it receives full government support.

He explained that the hybrid orange seedlings distributed by Hon. Karfiah produce fruits twice a year, making them non-seasonal.

Mr. Spencer emphasized that the initiative has the potential to lift Liberians out of poverty and economically empower rural communities.

He further noted that such a project goes beyond the usual short-term handouts politicians often give to citizens, as it has the potential to make a lasting impact on livelihoods.

Mr. Spencer also appealed to Hon. Karfiah to import more seedlings into the country to benefit additional farmers, dismissing claims by some individuals that the seedlings distributed in 2023 failed to germinate.

He described those spreading such misinformation as people who do not value agriculture and are bent on discouraging progress.

It can be recalled that during his 2023 senatorial campaign, former District Five Representative Karfiah launched the “Triple R” initiative; Rescue, Rebuild, and Restore, under which he distributed thousands of orange seedlings across B**g County.

Despite heavy criticism and allegations labeling the project as “unnecessary and fake,” Hon. Karfiah has reaffirmed his commitment to continue empowering citizens of B**g County through agriculture.
