Monrovia, Liberia - ANC Youth Congress Demands Accountability in Wake of R**e Allegations Against Deputy Minister J. Bryant McGill
The Indomitable National Youth Congress of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) expresses its deepest outrage over the appalling allegations of r**e leveled against Deputy Minister for Youth Development, J. Bryant McGill, accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old Liberian girl. This is not merely a criminal accusation—it is a betrayal of public trust, a desecration of the very office meant to protect and empower our youth.
Minister McGill was entrusted with the sacred duty of nurturing Liberia’s young people. Instead, he stands accused of violating the most vulnerable among them. In a country where r**e is a non-bailable offense, the law is clear: an allegation of r**e warrants immediate arrest and detention pending trial. There must be no sacred cows in the implementation of justice.
This scandal does not stand alone. It follows the unresolved case involving Minister of Internal Affairs Francis Sakila Nyumalin, who was allegedly caught on camera in a compromising situation with a woman in tears—an incident widely interpreted as sexual violence. Yet, President Joseph Boakai took no action, sending a dangerous signal that impunity is tolerated at the highest levels of government.
The Youth Congress views this pattern as a systemic failure of leadership and a moral collapse in governance. When ministers accused of r**e remain in office, it emboldens predators and silences victims. It is unacceptable.
We therefore demand the following:
1. Immediate dismissal and arrest of J. Bryant McGill, in accordance with Liberian law.
2. Reopening and full investigation into the allegations against Minister Francis Sakila Nyumalin, with equal application of justice.
3. A public statement from President Boakai, affirming his commitment to upholding the rule
