โIn a swift move to mitigate the current land crisis across the Country - the Liberian Senate on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 - took a decisive action in finding a way forward.
โ
โThe Senate, acting as Elders in its 15th day sitting, for several hours - deliberated on the growing wave of continuous and abrupt ownership of land - which has resulted into demolitions of many private homes and business areas.
โ
โIn the exercise of its oversight responsibility, the Senate under the astute leadership of President Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence - has summoned the Liberia Land Authority (LLA), Law Reform Commission, Ministry of Justice and the Liberia National Police to provide clarity on the current situation.
โ
โThe above institutions are expected to appear on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
โ
โThe Liberian Senate decision, was predicated upon a communication from RiverGee County Senator Jonathan Boycharles Sogbie praying the Plenary to swiftly intervene in order to avoid the escalation of the crisis.
โ
โSenator Sogbie in his communication, warned that the current land issues in the Country is undermining public confidence, fueling tension and violence, and threatening national peace and stability.
โ
โAs the public remains concerned, the Senate will now take charge and find a way forward for the benefit of the lasting peace of the country.
