โ€ŽIn a swift move to mitigate the current land crisis across the Country - the Liberian Senate on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 - took a decisive action in finding a way forward.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽThe Senate, acting as Elders in its 15th day sitting, for several hours - deliberated on the growing wave of continuous and abrupt ownership of land - which has resulted into demolitions of many private homes and business areas.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽIn the exercise of its oversight responsibility, the Senate under the astute leadership of President Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence - has summoned the Liberia Land Authority (LLA), Law Reform Commission, Ministry of Justice and the Liberia National Police to provide clarity on the current situation.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽThe above institutions are expected to appear on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽThe Liberian Senate decision, was predicated upon a communication from RiverGee County Senator Jonathan Boycharles Sogbie praying the Plenary to swiftly intervene in order to avoid the escalation of the crisis.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽSenator Sogbie in his communication, warned that the current land issues in the Country is undermining public confidence, fueling tension and violence, and threatening national peace and stability.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽAs the public remains concerned, the Senate will now take charge and find a way forward for the benefit of the lasting peace of the country.

More than 100 individuals
including women and children are receiving life altering medical interventions under the initiative.

The outreach, which began on Friday, February 27, 2026, was formally launched by the founder and sponsor of the Foundation, Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate.

The atmosphere in Wayzohn City is one of profound relief and gratitude as medical professionals work around the clock. The surgical team is being led by Dr. Jude Wesseh, the head of the Grand Bassa County Health Team. According to reports from the field, the team has already successfully completed operations on nearly 100 patients, with many more currently being treated in the theatre.

For those who had long been burdened by chronic illnesses, the surgery represents more than just medical treatment; it is a return to a life of strength and dignity. Patients who have already undergone surgery are beginning the recovery process, with family members and community leaders voicing their overwhelming appreciation for the intervention.

"Lives are being restored," noted a community member present at the site.

Many residents were seen offering prayers and praises for both the medical team and Senator Karnga-Lawrence, citing the immense financial and physical relief the program has brought to their households.

The Nyonblee Cares Foundation continues to prioritize health and wellness across the country, with this latest surgical mission marking a significant milestone in their efforts to provide quality healthcare to underserved populations in Grand Bassa.

WAYZOHN, Grand Bassa County February 27, 2026

The atmosphere in Wayzohn, the second-largest city in Grand Bassa, was electric today as Senate Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence hosted a high-level constituency engagement that set a new benchmark for legislative accountability and grassroots inclusion.

The forum transformed the city into a hub of vibrant civic discourse, serving as a formal platform for the Pro-Tempore to provide a transparent, comprehensive account of her legislative mandate.

centringing the voices of Grand Bassaโ€™s citizens in her national leadership, Senator Karnga-Lawrence underscored her unwavering commitment to ensuring that the needs of the county remain at the forefront of the Liberian Senateโ€™s agenda.

The event drew a formidable cross-section of Bassa leadership and citizenry, highlighting the broad support for the Senatorโ€™s vision for the county.

Participants included:
Hon. Alfred Flomo, Representative of Electoral District #4, Grand Bassa County.
Local Government Officials, including the Mayor of Wayzohn City, and the District Superintendent of the Wee Statutory District.
Traditional and Community Leaders, including local Chiefs and Zoes representatives.
Interfaith leaders represent both the Christian and Muslim communities.

Advocacy Groups, comprising womenโ€™s organizations and the student community.

Moving beyond political rhetoric, Senator Karnga-Lawrence delivered a substantive briefing centred on three critical pillars: Health, Education, and Road Infrastructure. She provided participates with an inside look at her advocacy efforts within the Liberian Senate, detailing the strategic negotiations.

Her presentation provided clear, tangible evidence of how national legislative decisions are directly fueling local progress.
Strengthening Participatory Democracy
The engagement was defined by its highly interactive nature. Rather than a one-way presentation, the forum opened the floor for robust, direct dialogue between the Pro-Tempore and her constituents.

Participants lauded the session as a vital exercise in participatory democracy, noting that the transparency provided by the Senator brought much-needed clarity to the link between the halls of the Capitol and their daily lives in the county.

The event marks a significant milestone in the Senatorโ€™s ongoing outreach strategy. This is the second major citizens' engagement of 2026, following a successful forum held on January 25, 2026, on the Fairground in Buchanan City. Demonstrating the consistency of her promise to reach every corner of the county, Senator Karnga-Lawrence reaffirmed that she will continue to extend these engagements to other districts across Grand Bassa
Closing the event, the Senate Pro-Tempore pledged to further intensify her efforts toward the expansion of essential social services and the acceleration of infrastructure projects.
"My office remains an open door," Senator Karnga-Lawrence stated.

GRAND BASSA COUNTY โ€” The transformation of Gunnigar Town Public School from a construction site to a centre of learning reached a critical milestone this week as the Ministry of Education officially began the provisioning process for the facility.

In a move marking the start of logistical preparations, the Ministry, via the County Education Office, delivered an initial consignment of 200 sets of student chairs to the campus.

This delivery signals the governmentโ€™s commitment to preparing the infrastructure for its opening.

The schoolโ€™s journey began under the leadership of Senate President Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, who spearheaded the development project.

Following the completion of the facility last year, Senator Karnga-Lawrence formally delegated the school to the Ministry of Education, setting the stage for the current phase of equipment and staffing.
The Ministry has confirmed that the school is slated to officially open for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The School is not intended to be a standard institution. The Ministry of Education has designated it as a "model school" for the region, serving as a premier secondary facility.

To achieve this status, the Ministry has outlined a two-pronged strategic plan:

The implementation of a rigorous academic program designed to attract and challenge the top-performing students in the region.

A merit-based recruitment process to ensure only the most qualified and dedicated educators are selected for the faculty.

Following the delivery of the furniture, Senator Karnga-Lawrence praised the Ministry for its swift transition into the provisioning phase. She highlighted the arrival of the chairs as a tangible victory for the decentralization of quality education in Liberia.

"We are building more than just a school; we are building a centre for excellence that will shape the future leaders of Grand Bassa and Liberia at large," the Pro-Tempore remarked.

As provisioning continues, the local community looks toward the 2026 academic year with high expectations for what is expected to become a flagship institution in the Liberian educational landscape.

In a significant boost for local infrastructure, President Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence has successfully negotiated a US$3 million funding package along with her colleagues from ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) to transform key road networks in Buchanan. This funding is a direct result of the Pro Temporeโ€™s intervention and stands as an additional benefit for Grand Bassa County, separate from the broader provisions currently outlined in the ArcelorMittal Mineral Development Agreement (MDA). Which we will list in our outcoming articles.

The breakthrough comes on the heels of a high-level Citizen Engagement Forum held recently in Buchanan. The forum, which brought together local leaders, youth groups, and residents, the Senator was questioned directly about the "Own Your Own" road, a critical infrastructure priority for the community.

Responding to constituent concerns at the forum, Senator Karnga-Lawrence promised to work with her colleagues and to secure the necessary resources. True to her word, the Senate Leader returned to the Capitol and entered into strategic negotiations with ArcelorMittal Liberia.
Those discussions have now yielded a major victory for Grand Bassa, resulting in a US$3 million commitment dedicated to two major projects:

Pavement of the "Own Your Own" Road: Bringing modern, durable paving to the residential and commercial corridor in Buchanan.

Maintenance of Barconi Road: Ensuring a comprehensive maintenance plan to keep the Barconi route safe and accessible for residents.

The funding is being hailed as a prime example of effective legislative oversight. Marking sure that additional benefits are included in the ArcelorMittal Mineral Development Agreement (MDA), Senator Karnga-Lawrence has ensured that community-level needs are addressed alongside national policy

"Our dialogue with the citizens in Buchanan was not just about listeningโ€”it was about action."

The Liberian Senate, under the leadership of Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, is still reviewing the third amendment to the ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) Mineral Development Agreement, signalling a commitment to securing a more favourable deal for the nation.
Credible information obtained confirms that the agreement remains under intense scrutiny as senators push to ensure the contract aligns with "today's reality." The primary focus of the deliberations centres on two pillars:
Increased National Revenue: Ensuring the central government receives a fairer share of the mineral wealth.

Host County Benefits: Guaranteeing that the communities directly impacted by mining operations see tangible improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

The senate is scrutinizing the document to ensure it serves the people. It must meet the realities of the current day and provide maximum benefit to the host counties.
