𝗕𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗻, 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 — The Bassa Law Students Association has received US$10,000 in financial support from the Grand Bassa County Administration to help meet its members' educational needs.

The funding was approved under the leadership of Grand Bassa County Superintendent, Karyou Johnson, who said the amount was drawn from the administrative budget allocated to the Superintendent's Office.

According to Johnson, the US$10,000 forms part of a larger US$500,000 educational support package provided by Cavalla Resources Liberia Inc., aimed at expanding educational opportunities for students from Grand Bassa County.

The Superintendent reaffirmed the County Administration's commitment to investing in education and supporting students pursuing professional and academic growth.

Hon Johnson added that the gesture reflects his administration push to ensure educational resources reach students directly, helping build a new generation of skilled professionals from the Grand Bassa county.

Monrovia, Liberia — Justin Oldpa Yeazehn, widely known as Prophet Key, has been released from the Monrovia Central Prison, hours after the Supreme Court confirmed he had fully served his six-month contempt sentence.

Speaking briefly to journalists outside the facility, a visibly composed Yeazehn described his time behind bars in just a few words: "I have been rehabilitated, reassimilated and relocated. Thank you."

He offered no further comment, leaving many questions about his prison experience unanswered for now.

His release follows a formal order from the Full Bench of the Supreme Court, which found that Yeazehn had completed the sentence imposed on him for contempt of court and directed prison authorities to discharge him immediately.

Yeazehn's case had drawn public attention throughout his detention, with many Liberians closely following developments in the contempt proceedings against him.

For now, the self-styled prophet appears eager to move past the ordeal, choosing a brief, measured statement over a detailed account of his months in custody.

Monrovia, Liberia — Liberia's Supreme Court has ordered the immediate release of Justin Oldpa Yeazehn, popularly known as Prophet Key, after ruling he has fully served a six-month sentence for contempt of court.

The release order, issued by the Clerk of the Supreme Court on August 14, 2026, was addressed to the Superintendent of the Monrovia Central Prison, directing authorities to discharge Yeazehn without delay.

"By directive of the Full Bench of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Liberia, you are hereby ordered to release from further detention the living body of Justin Oldpa Yeazehn, who has fully served his six (6) months sentence imposed by the Supreme Court of Liberia for contempt of court," the order reads.

The Court said the directive alone gives prison officials all the legal authority needed to carry out the release, with no further court approval required.

The document was signed and sealed by Cllr. Sam Mamadeh, Clerk of the Supreme Court, and sent to the prison on South Beach, Center Street, Monrovia.

Yeazehn had been held at the Monrovia Central Prison since being found in contempt by the Court. With his sentence now confirmed complete, prison authorities are required to end his detention immediately.

The order was handed down by the Court's March Term 2026 bench, comprising Chief Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, Sr., and Associate Justices Jamesetta H. Wolokolie, Yussif D. Kaba, Ceainah D. Clinton-Johnson, and Boakai N. Kanneh.

With the directive now in force, Prophet Key is expected to walk free from the Monrovia Central Prison.

Buchanan, Grand Bassa County — The Ministry of Health has wrapped up a one-day stakeholder engagement in Buchanan, bringing together about 30 community and civic leaders to confront rising concerns over illicit drug use and substance abuse in Grand Bassa County.

The meeting, held Thursday, August 13, was organized by the Ministry's Communication and Health Promotion Unit alongside its Mental Health Unit.

Participants included religious and community leaders, representatives of line ministries, journalists, civil society groups, and local government officials.

The engagement forms part of the Ministry's At-Risk Youth and Substance Use Disorder Prevention Project, supported by UNICEF. It targets Buchanan City and Compound #1, aiming to strengthen community-based responses to drug abuse rather than relying solely on enforcement.

The Ministry says the strategy reflects Boakai-Koung administration push to tackle substance abuse through local engagement, positioning community leaders as frontline partners in prevention efforts.

Buchanan, Liberia-
President Joseph Boakai has signed into law a bill that strips the National Port Authority of its decades, old monopoly, opening the door for independent management at Liberia's four seaports.

The new law creates the Independent Seaport and Inland Ports Regulatory Authority, which will oversee autonomous boards running the ports in Monrovia, Buchanan, Greenville and Harper.

It ends more than 70 years of centralized control by the National Port Authority.

The signing marks a dramatic reversal for Boakai, who vetoed two earlier versions of the bill.

He had warned that the legislation carried legal conflicts, overlapping regulatory mandates, and threats to Liberia's international maritime security commitments.

Lawmakers did not back down. The Senate revised the bill and sent it back to the President's desk, and this time, he signed it.

𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗢𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲

Minister of State Samuel Stevequoah told reporters here the President acted on the recommendation of the Minister of Justice, whose office had previously flagged the same legal concerns Boakai cited in his vetoes.

The disclosure suggests those objections were either resolved or overridden before the President put pen to paper.

It was confirmed the law includes an 18, month transition period, meaning the new port structure will not take effect until 2028.

Supporters see it as time to build a coordinated maritime security and anti-drug trafficking system before the ports split apart.

Critics see a delay that lets the President sign a politically sensitive bill, one touching national security, without facing its immediate consequences.

Grand Bassa County Sends US$20,000 to Students Studying in China, Kenya and Rwanda

Buchanan, Grand Bassa County — August 13, 2026

Grand Bassa County has released US$20,000 to support students from the county who are studying in China, Kenya and Rwanda, easing financial pressure on scholars far from home.

County Finance Officer Paul Piah handed over the cheque on behalf of the County Administration to Saykpepo Wulu Innis, President of the Bassa Students in Rwanda and Regional Coordinator for diaspora students in China and Kenya.

Speaking at the presentation, Hon. Piah said the gesture reflects Superintendent Karyou Johnson's commitment to placing education at the center of the county's development agenda.

He described education as a powerful tool for shaping young people and preparing them to give back to Grand Bassa County.

The US$20,000 is part of a US$500,000 educational support package pledged by Cavalla Resources Liberia Incorporated, aimed at widening access to education for students across the county.

Innis thanked the County Administration and Superintendent Johnson for the support, saying it will directly ease the academic burden faced by Bassa students studying overseas.

The County Administration says it will continue partnering with organizations to expand educational opportunities and invest in the county's young people.
