1. In the midst of a bitter leadership dispute, embattled House Speaker Fonati Koffa declares he will not recognize the authority of Majority Bloc Speaker Richard Koon until the Supreme Court delivers a ruling on a legal challenge filed regarding Koon’s ascendancy.

Koffa’s legal team submitted a bill of information to the Supreme Court, seeking a constitutional interpretation of the Majority Bloc’s decision to remove Koffa from office and elect Koon as the new Speaker.

Koffa firmly stated that participating in sessions under Koon’s leadership while the case remains unresolved would effectively legitimize Koon’s Speakership, a step he vehemently opposes.

Upon his return to Liberia on Saturday, Koffa addressed the press, reiterating his position and emphasizing that he is awaiting the court’s decision on the contentious leadership dispute.

The Speaker was welcomed by a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters at Roberts International Airport, further heightening the already tense political climate surrounding the House of Representatives.

Koffa’s return has the potential to intensify the ongoing battle for control of the legislature, as the dispute over leadership continues to unfold

2. Ongoing land conflict in Grand Kru County between Kawalaken in Gblebo and Geneken in Wedabo has intensified with latest reports indicating that at least one additional person has been shot on Friday.

The Friday shooting brings to three the number of victims of gunfire linked to the longstanding land dispute.

Local sources have informed King's FM that despite efforts by the Liberia National Police earlier arrest of individuals involved, the violence continues, forcing numerous residents including women and children from the Glebo side to flee their homes out of fear.

The conflict remains tense, after men carrying single-barrer guns and cutlasses from the Wedabo side stormed Gblebo Kawalaken and set ablaze a number of houses last week.

The situation has raised grave concerns as several persons have begun urging immediate intervention from the national government to prevent further escalation.

The Kawalaken-Geneken land conflict has persisted for several years, despite multiple interventions from past governments.

Local residents are calling on national authorities for sustainable resolution, emphasizing a urgent need to restore peace and security in the affected communities.

3. The opposition Liberty Party has reaffirmed its confidence in Senate Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence by retaining her as the party's political leader.

The decision was made on Saturday during the party's National Convention, which was also part of a national reconciliation process that began on Friday, February 7, 2025, and concluded on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the party’s new headquarters in Congo Town.

Addressing party members, Pro Tempore Karnga-Lawrence thanked Liberty Party partisans, both home and abroad, for their support in reuniting the party as one family.

As the political leader of the LP, she assured partisans that the reconciliation process would continue across Liberia. Pro Tempore Karnga-Lawrence expressed her gratitude to the entire Liberty Party for believing in her leadership and pledged to elevate the party to greater heights, ensuring she would not disappoint them.

She also honored the legacy of the party's late father, Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine, whom she described as a mentor, emphasizing that his vision would continue to guide the party as it strives for national leadership.

In closing, she expressed her appreciation to all who supported her during the challenging times within the Liberty Party and encouraged everyone to continue working together to build a stronger and more united Liberty Party.

The event was attended by several political parties, including members of the legislature, who came to witness the occasion.

4. Report from B**g County says A 25-year-old man has been sent to court for allegedly setting fire to the cocoa plantation of Representative Marvin Cole in the County.

According to FrontPage Africa, the suspect, identified as Musa Izako, was charged with arson and disorderly conduct on Friday, February 7, by officers at the Gbartala Police Station in Yelequelleh District.

According to Gbartala Police Commander, Mustapha Swaray, the incident occurred on Thursday, February 6, after B**g County authorities received a call from Paul Darwokala, a resident of Cole’s village, requesting urgent police intervention.

Darwokala, while patrolling from Gbondio Town to Cole’s Village, noticed an abandoned motorbike along the roadside. Suspicious of the situation, he began a surveillance patrol. It was during this patrol that he allegedly saw Izako coming from the bush and setting fire to the cocoa plantation.

Upon realizing he had been spotted, Izako fled the scene on his motorbike. Darwokala gave chase in a taxi, honking the horn repeatedly.

However, Izako ran out of gasoline, abandoned the motorbike, and escaped into the bush.

Darwokala called for help, and local community members assisted in apprehending the suspect. Izako was later captured and handed over to police, along with the abandoned motorbike.

A search of Izako’s belongings revealed a wallet containing six passport-size photos, a national ID card, and a lighter.

When questioned, Izako denied the charges, claiming he was on his way to buy palm wine from a nearby village. However, he could not identify the village or produce the palm wine he purportedly purchased.

When asked why he fled the scene, Izako reportedly remained silent, though he acknowledged ownership of the wallet and its contents, including the lighter.

Based on eyewitness testimony and physical evidence, police charged Izako with arson and disorderly conduct, forwarding the case to the 9th Judicial Circuit Court for prosecution.

1. Suspended Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) Governor J. Aloysius Tarlue has been publicly exonerated of corruption by Acting Executive Governor Henry F. Saamoi, who confirmed that the CBL compliance audit found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing.

Speaking during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Plenary last week, Acting Governor Saamoi said that the audit conducted by the General Auditing Commission (GAC) was a compliance review, not a forensic or investigative probe. He stated that while 28 compliance issues were flagged, none suggested corruption or criminal intent.

“This was not an investigative audit. This is a compliance audit wherein missteps are identified, and those are the missteps that we are addressing,” Saamoi clarified. He also said that the procedural lapses identified are being corrected and reiterated that Tarlue’s financial claims on the bank have been resolved.

Tarlue mounted a legal challenge against his suspension, filing a petition with the Supreme Court on August 2, 2024, to contest the president’s decision. Represented by Gongloe & Associates, Inc., Tarlue argued that his removal violated the Central Bank Act and the Liberian Constitution. The legal team maintained that as a tenure-protected official, Tarlue could only be removed through impeachment and not by executive decree.

“The petitioner was suspended in violation of his statutory tenure and without due process. This sets a dangerous precedent for all tenure-protected officials,” the petition stated.

Tarlue’s legal team grounded their argument in the Central Bank Act, specifically Section 13.1 of the Amended and Restated Act Establishing the Central Bank of Liberia (1999), which outlines that the appointment of the Executive Governor, confirmed by the Liberian Senate, is for a term of five years. Tarlue stressed that his appointment followed these legal stipulations and that his suspension was a direct violation of this law.

Tarlue’s lawyers further contended that the Executive Branch’s action infringed upon the Legislature’s exclusive authority to impeach and remove the Executive Governor, a breach, they claimed threatens the balance of power within the government. The petition states: “The Petitioner references subsection 14.5 of the Amended and Restated Act Establishing the Central Bank of Liberia (1999), which states that a removed party is entitled to due process in accordance with the 1986 Constitution of the Republic of Liberia and other relevant laws of the Republic of Liberia

2. After years of internal strife, the Liberty Party (LP) has announced a return to unity under the leadership of Senate Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence. The decision follows a recommendation from a joint reconciliation committee, signaling a major breakthrough in resolving the party’s longstanding divisions.

At a press conference on Monday, LP officials confirmed that both factions involved in the dispute have agreed to reunite under Karnga-Lawrence’s leadership. As part of the reconciliation process, the party will hold a convention on February 8-9, 2025, under the theme “Stronger Together.”

The split within the LP had significantly impacted the party’s public image and effectiveness as a key political entity in Liberia. The reconciliation effort, which involved extensive discussions between the opposing factions, aims to restore stability and strengthen the party ahead of future political engagements.

3. The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has arrested a 37-year-old Kenyan national, Larnah B. Arondo, at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) for attempting to smuggle 8.642 kilograms of he**in into the country.

Madam Arondo was intercepted on February 1, 2025, at around 3:00 AM upon her arrival on Ethiopian Airlines flight ET-933 from Thailand via Addis Ababa. LDEA officers discovered the illicit substance concealed inside a frame of a canopy. The seized he**in has an estimated street value of US$388,890.

During initial questioning, Arondo confessed that a Nigerian man named Alex, residing in Thailand, had given her the package to deliver to a Liberian contact, Abel Somah Gbedia.

Authorities have since arrested Gbedia, and both individuals are currently in LDEA custody as investigations continue.

4. U.S. President Donald Trump has officially stopped all the fundings from the United States to South Africa.

South Africa benefits in millions of dollars from the US every year but Trump has stopped it because he doesn't like the way South Africans treat other African countries and foreigners in South Africa.

South Africa seîzes lands, and properties from foreigners in their country especially the lēss privîleged and Trump thinks that a country which does such dispeakable acts doesn't deserve funds from the US.

Donald Trump has made it clear if South Africa doesn't look into the matter accordingly and apologîze to their fellow African countries, they should forget about the funds they get from the US for good because it will be given to another deserving African country.

1. For the first time in more than a decade, the justices of the Supreme Court of Liberia boycotted President Joseph Boakai’s State of the Nation Address.

It’s not clear while the entire Judiciary Branch of government boycotted what is supposed to be a constitutional mandate under article 58 0f the Liberian Constitution.

According to Article 58 of the Liberian Constitution, the President shall on the 4th working Monday in January of each year, present the administration’s legislative program for the ensuing year, and shall once a year report to the Legislature on the state of the Republic.

As Legislative tradition of the occasion dictates, the President is to begin his address at the 4pm prompt in the Joint Chamber of the Legislature.

Protocol also forbids lawmakers to question the President’s address after delivery at the ceremony. Judges of the Supreme Court of Liberia, officials of Government, and members of the Diplomatic Corps including invited members of the public are expected to be in attendance, but Monday’s occasion witnessed the absence of all members of the supreme court.

On Sunday, the Executive Mansion released the event’s official protocol, instructing all guests, dignitaries, and members of the Legislature and Judiciary to be seated by 3:45 PM in anticipation of the President’s arrival.

Our reporter who covered the event said by 3:50 PM up to the entire event, no member of the Supreme Court had taken their seat, raising questions about their absence.

Following speculations on social media about the absent of the Chief Justice from the country during the early morning and afternoon before the event, the Supreme Court issued a statement explaining that Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene G. Yuoh would have been absent due to her participation in the Annual High-Level Meeting of Chief Justices and Presidents of Supreme and Constitutional Courts from Africa and the Middle East in Cairo, Egypt.

2.. The chairperson of the rule of law caucus representative Musa Bililty, calls for a review of a matter dismissed by the Civil Law Court.
The case, which stems from the ongoing dispute in the House of Representatives, concerns the election of Richard Koon as Speaker, a decision that Bililty and other members of the Rule of Law Caucus have opposed.

The controversy erupted following a ruling by the Supreme Court last year, which led embattled Speaker Fonati Koffa to petition the Civil Law Court for a declaratory judgment.

However, on Monday, the Civil Law Court dismissed Koffa’s petition, citing lack of jurisdiction. In response, Bililty took to his page, urging the Supreme Court to intervene and provide clarity in a matter that he believes is crucial to upholding justice and constitutional principles.

3. Grand Bassa County is poised for a significant economic transformation as Sen. Gbehzohngar Findley announced that a deal for the development of the region’s Iron Ore Tailings in Barconie, Buchanan, is on the verge of being finalized. According to Findley, the deal is set to bring an estimated $30 to $40 million USD in benefits to the county.

Although Findley declined to reveal the name of the company involved in the project, he assured the public that the agreement has been thoroughly reviewed and deemed favorable for Grand Bassa County. The project is expected to provide a substantial economic boost, not only through financial investments but also by creating hundreds of new jobs.

As part of the agreement, the company is scheduled to begin construction next month on a state-of-the-art 300 tons per hour (TPH) Iron Ore Beneficiation Plant. This facility will be responsible for processing iron ore tailings, significantly increasing local production capacity.

The establishment of the beneficiation plant is aligned with broader efforts to strengthen Liberia’s mining sector while stimulating the local economy and creating long-term benefits for the people of Grand Bassa.

The deal is also expected to provide a boost to the country’s broader mining industry by enhancing infrastructure and adding value to raw materials, positioning Liberia as a more competitive player in the global mining market.

With the potential to create hundreds of jobs and generate millions in revenue, this project stands as a significant milestone in the economic development of Grand Bassa County and the wider Liberian economy.

4. On January 22, 2024, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) in Margibi arrested 47-year-old Fatu Sione from Gbandi Community, Kakata.

Acting on a search warrant from the Kakata Magisterial Court, authorities found 136 single-barrel shots valued at LRD 158,000 (USD 831.58) at her residence.

Additionally, Fatu's 22-year-old son, Jonathan Kollie, was arrested with 22 strips of Tramadol, valued at LRD 44,000 (USD 231.58), and one gram of kush worth USD 20 (LRD 3,800). Both suspects are under investigation pending trial.

1. In keeping with the Constitution of the Republic of Liberia, President Joseph Boikai, will today present his first State of the Nation Address to the second Joint Session of the 55th Legislature; in keeping with Article 58 of the Constitution of Liberia.

According to Article 58 of the Liberian Constitution, the President shall on the 4th working Monday in January of each year, present the administration’s legislative program for the ensuing year, and shall once a year report to the Legislature on the state of the Republic.

In presenting his annual report, President Boikai is expected to touch on the economic condition of the nation as well as the administration’s achievement, challenges, expenditure, income and plans for the ensuing year of the regime.

As Legislative tradition of the occasion dictates, the President is to begin his address at the 4pm prompt in the Joint Chamber of the Legislature.

But that will not happen unless there is a quorum of the 103 legislators of both Houses, supervised by the Presiding Officer or Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The Presiding will then entertain a motion for Session to be called to order. That motion is usually on a one item agenda; and that is, the President’s State of the Nation Address.

When that is done, the Presiding will mandate the Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Representatives, Brigadier General Martin Johnson to es**rt the President to the Joint Chambers of the Legislature for the State of the Nation Address.

General Johnson along with the Sergeant-at-Arms of the Liberia Senate and the Joint Committee on Executive will es**rt the President who may be in any part of the bailiwick of the Legislature.

Protocol also forbids lawmakers to question the President’s address after delivery at the ceremony. Judges of the Supreme Court of Liberia, officials of Government, and members of the Diplomatic Corps including invited members of the public are expected to be in attendance.

2. The human rights situation in Liberia under President Joseph Boakai's administration has been marred by widespread violations, including state-sanctioned violence, impunity, and the suppression of political dissent.

A recent report from the Panoramic Justice Group paints a troubling picture of a nation where law enforcement abuses, targeted killings, and political repression continue unchecked, with little regard for justice or accountability.

State violence has become increasingly pervasive under President Boakai’s administration, particularly within the police force. Numerous high-profile cases of brutality against citizens, especially those protesting government policies, have surfaced.

One of the most disturbing incidents occurred on February 28, 2024, in Grand Cape Mount County, when police opened fire on protesters Bangalie Kamara and Essah Massaley during a demonstration against government policies. Despite calls for accountability, no charges have been filed against the officers involved, raising concerns about the culture of impunity within law enforcement.

Similarly, the mysterious deaths of James Kandy and Morris Gomo, both of whom died under suspicious circumstances while in police custody, remain unresolved

3.The Liberia National Police launches an investigation in a concerning incident that occurred at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville, fast becoming a focal point of public discussion and concern on social media.

The incident, which involved a confrontation between a police officer and BBC Correspondent Moses Garzeawu, was captured on video and has since gained significant traction online.

The LNP confirmed that a thorough investigation into the altercation is currently underway, reassuring the public that they are taking the matter seriously. In her official statement, Deputy Commissioner of Police Cecelia Clarke emphasized the commitment of the LNP to the principles of press freedom, stating, "We urge the public to remain calm and refrain from any actions that might escalate the situation."

The video depicts a scuffle that has raised alarms among journalists and media advocates regarding the conduct of law enforcement towards the press in Liberia.

Press freedom has been a critical issue in the country, and this incident has reignited discussions about the treatment of journalists, particularly in tense situations involving law enforcement.

The LNP's acknowledgment of the incident and its willingness to investigate signifies a step towards transparency and accountability.
Local and international media organizations are closely monitoring the situation, urging the police to ensure that the rights of journalists are respected and protected during their duties.

The Liberia National Police is expected to release further details as the investigation unfolds.

1. Liberia National Police officially writes the House of Representatives, requesting the appearance of several lawmakers identified as “persons of interest” in connection with the fire incident at the Capitol Building as embattled speaker calls for international assistance.

The lawmakers summoned include Representatives Dixon Seboe, Marvin Cole, Frank Foko, Precilla Cooper, Abu Kamara, and embattled House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa.
This move by the LNP comes amidst ongoing public speculation surrounding the fire incident.

The police had previously denied rumors of an alleged plan to arrest the lawmakers for their purported involvement in the Capitol Building arson attack.

The fire, which caused significant damage to parts of the historic Capitol Building, has remained a contentious issue, with various stakeholders demanding accountability.
The police’s request for the lawmakers’ appearance signals a critical step in the investigation as authorities seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The House has confirmed receipt of the police commissioner, stating that leadership has taken siege of it to work with the lawmakers concerned to cooperate with the police.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the lawmakers will respond to the summons and what implications this development may have for the legislative body.

2. For allegedly paying tribute at the funeral of the late Prince Johnson in a manner that seems to disrespect Vice President Jeremiah Koung, the Ministry of Labour has dismissed Director of Health and Occupational Safety Division, Czar Palay with immediate effect despite apologies rendered by him.

The Ministry of Labour, through Acting Human Resource Director Mohfel Dekpah, confirmed the dismissal in a formal communication, citing administrative reasons without providing further details.

The termination letter dated January 23, 2025, and signed by Minister of Labour Cllr. Cooper Kruah, stated that Palay’s contract would not be extended.

As part of the process, Mr. Palay has been instructed to return all Ministry property in his possession to the Acting Human Resource Director.

According to party insiders, Palay’s dismissal was reportedly linked to remarks he made during the state funeral of Senator Prince Johnson, which some viewed as inappropriate and contrary to the MDR’s values.

His comments were particularly controversial because they appeared to challenge Vice President Jeremiah Koung, who is also a key figure in the party.

At the funeral ceremony, the MDR Youth Chairperson frowned at Vice President Jeremiah Koung over his statement against the young people of the party to desist from chanting battle cries, a comment which the MDR Youth Chairperson said that it was an affront to the youth of the party who voted for him.

In response to the backlash, Palay issued a public apology on social media, expressing regret for his comments and apologizing to Vice President Koung and the affected families for any offense caused.

3. Amid the ongoing investigation surrounding the fire incident at the capitol, Firefighters on Thursday prevented what could have been the third fire outbreak at the Capitol Building after detecting smoke in the rotunda of the historic structure.

According to b to our reporter, officers of the Liberia National Fire Service attributed the incident to an electrical fault caused by a water-soaked breaker in the rotunda, which began to spark.

Officials said the situation was brought under control before it escalated into a full-blown fire.

This marks the third fire-related incident at the Capitol Building in recent months.

In December, a major fire engulfed the joint chamber, causing extensive damage to the facility. Following that incident, the Liberia National Police launched an investigation and subsequently established that the fire was an arson attack.

The December fire led to multiple arrests, and police have forwarded several individuals to court in connection with the incident.

The repeated fire incidents at the Capitol Building have raised concerns about safety measures and security within one of Liberia’s most important institutions.

While the electrical fault in the latest incident was contained, the recurrence of such threats has drawn attention to the need for a comprehensive review of the building’s electrical and safety systems.

The public awaits further updates as the investigation into the December fire continues, and lawmakers prepare to respond to the
police’s invitation for questioning.

1. For unauthorized participation in the funeral services of the late Senator Prince Johnson, NSA formally requests Assistant Director for Operations Nelsco Wolo to return all agency property.

The decision was made days after Wolo delivered a tribute on behalf of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction, the party who played a major role in bringing the current administration headed by President Joseph Boakai to power but has been seen as a direct violation of agency rules and regulations according to the letter.

The letter however mandates that Wolo is required to submit a written explanation for his actions that should be addressed to the Office of the Director of the NSA emphasizing the importance of prompt compliance with this request.

The letter, signed by Deputy Director for Administration Patrick Doe, listed the items to be returned, including a vehicle, badge and identification card, communication headset, and weapon

2. the Chairman of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Janga Kowo, issued a stern warning regarding any potential arrests of CDC lawmakers related to the Capitol Building fire incident.

Kowo declared that any attempt to arrest a CDC member under suspicion of involvement would lead to the arrest of the entire party, signaling the party's unwavering solidarity and determination to protect its members.

This statement underscores the ongoing tension between the CDC and other political entities, highlighting the party's readiness to confront any legal or political challenges.

Additionally, the CDC's Legislative Caucus, led by Senator Nathaniel McGill, has been directed to boycott the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Joseph Boakai.

This move reflects the party's dissatisfaction with the current administration and its policies, further escalating the political standoff in the country. The boycott serves as a clear signal of the CDC's intent to challenge the government's actions and reaffirm its position on critical national issues.

3. House of Representatives embattled speaker Cllr. Fonati Koffa refutes allegations of receiving information from Alex Dolewon, an employee of the National Security Agency who was arrested Tuesday and taken into custody for leaking sensitive intelligence.

Dolewon, 40, is facing several charges, including unlawful disclosure of confidential information, mishandling sensitive materials, recklessly endangering others, and criminal coercion.

The investigation, which commenced in December 2024, revealed that Dolewon utilized his WhatsApp account to share sensitive NSA details, including the identities and roles of high-ranking officials.

Notably, he advised Koffa, his uncle, to distrust certain NSA personnel, specifically, Deputy Director Steven Dolo, whom he described as engaged in “dirty work.”

In response to a FrontPage Africa inquiry, he denied claims of ever receiving intelligence from Dolewon, describing the accusations as unfounded.

Authorities have characterized Dolewon’s actions as a serious violation of NSA protocols, which strictly prohibit the unauthorized sharing of classified information.

They say the guy leaked information to me about the fire on December 12. The fire was Dec 17… He has never given me any information. I defy them to show the communication between him and myself, speaker Koffa told FPA.
