BOCORNET Conducts Two-Day Capacity Building Training for Station Managers and Financial Personnel
The B**g Community Radio Network (BOCORNET) has launched a significant two-day training session aimed at enhancing the skills and professionalism of station managers and financial personnel within its network. The workshop, which brings together key media actors from across B**g County, focuses on strengthening operational efficiency, financial transparency, and accountability in community radio management.
Speaking during the opening session of the training, the President of BOCORNET, Mr. Samuel Doweh, stressed the importance of the exercise and encouraged participants to approach the training with seriousness and dedication. He emphasized that the future of community media in the county depends heavily on how well station managers and financial officers perform their duties. “Let this training serve as a turning point in how we run our radio institutions,” Mr. Doweh urged. “We need to be more professional, accountable, and community-driven in our operations.”
Mr. Doweh further lauded the B**g County Administration and the County Council for their unwavering support to BOCORNET over the years. According to him, the moral and financial backing provided by the local authorities has played a major role in sustaining community radio operations, especially in remote areas where access to national media is limited. “We are extremely grateful for the support given to us by the county leadership. Their commitment shows they understand the critical role community radio plays in local development and civic engagement,” he noted.
Representing the B**g County Council at the training, youth representative Mr. Miller Bondo also commended BOCORNET for organizing the initiative. He described the training as timely and necessary, particularly at a time when media institutions are expected to be more transparent and efficient in handling public resources. “On behalf of the council, I want to thank BOCORNET for this proactive approach,” Mr. Bondo said. “However, we also want to stress the importance of transparency and accountability in the use of funds, especially those provided by the county through taxpayers' contributions. We expect the leadership of BOCORNET to lead by example.”
The two-day training is expected to cover a wide range of topics, including financial reporting, ethical journalism, community engagement, resource mobilization, and leadership development. Trainers and facilitators are drawn from experienced media practitioners, accountants, and civil society actors who understand the unique challenges faced by community media in Liberia.
As BOCORNET continues to build the capacity of its member stations, it is hoped that this initiative will result in more vibrant, independent, and well-managed radio institutions capable of informing, educating, and uniting communities across B**g County.
